Characteristics of Gran Cerdo
Gran Cerdo is a young red wine made by The Wine Love with the Tempranillo and Graciano varieties in the D.O.Ca. Rioja, La Rioja (Spain).
The Wine Love is run by Gonzalo Gonzalo, a man from Logroño who grew up surrounded by vines and after studying biology and oenology and traveling through France and Italy, he set up his own project in 2003. As well as making wine, this young entrepreneur organises musical tasting picnics, festivals and other unique tasting events. A fun and original way to catch the attention of the trendiest part of society.
The Gran Cerdo grapes are cultivated in the vineyard using traditional practices and when they reach optimum ripeness, they are pressed in cement tanks and then maceration and fermentation begin.
The name of this wine started as “Le Punk” but when Gonzalo went to the bank to ask for a loan and the banker said no, saying that the wine was not a seizable asset, he ended up raising the money with contributions from his friends and he named the wine “Gran Cerdo” (Big Pig), in honour of that banker. And that tells us something about this wine, that, above all, it is daring and fun.
