Characteristics of Gran Caus Ad Fines
Gran Caus Ad Fines is a red wine produced by the winery Can Ràfols dels Caus in D.O. Penedès. Can Ràfols dels Caus is located in Avinyonet del Penedès, in the heart of the mountain range Macizo del Garraf (Barcelona).
Gran Caus Ad Fines is 100% made with the Pinot Noir variety. The vineyards come from the Pere Pau farm, planted on clayey and calcareous soils. The cultivation of the vineyards aims for the least impact on the environment and maximum sustainability. This is why the vineyards are not treated with insecticides or herbicides. The harvest is carried out completely manually, and the grapes are taken to the winery immediately to prevent oxidation, uncontrolled fermentations and to maintain the turgidity of the grapes. In its production, fermentation is carried out in steel deposits at a controlled temperature and a malolactic fermentation also takes place in French oak barrels. After the vinification, the wine is aged for 6 months in the same French oak barrels.

Gran Caus Ad Fines 2010 is a fragrant, refined and mature wine. A vintage that reveals warmth on the nose, aromas of ripe red fruit, with floral notes and a light spicy touch. On the palate it is rounded due to the time spent in the bottle, with a lingering and persistent finish.

Can Ràfols dels Caus is Carlos Esteva, one of the few winemakers who live on the farm and strive to achieve their objectives, respecting the characteristics of the landscape and the architecture of the place in a sustainable framework. Harvest after harvest, in Can Ràfols dels Caus they experiment with different wines and varieties with the aim of making wines with a good ageing capacity, but fine, natural, elegant and with personality, which simultaneously show the fruit, the soil and the personality of the producer.
