Characteristics of Gómez Cruzado Reserva
Gómez Cruzado Reserva is a red wine produced by Gómez Cruzado in Haro, La Rioja, under the D.O.Q.a Rioja.
The winery was founded in 1886 in the famous station neighbourhood of Haro, where you will find the classic and most renowned wineries of the Rioja Alta. The winery’s vineyards are divided among three zones of the Rioja Alta, in the Sierra Cantabria, Nejerilla and Alto Najerilla, all cultivated using sustainable viticulture.
This wine is made exclusively with the Tempranillo grape variety, taken from the Sierra de Cantabria and Bajo Najerilla, planted on traditional low bush vines, aged over 30 years old.
Vinification is carried out in in truncated cone shaped stainless steel tanks with daily pump overs. The wine is then aged for 18 months in first and second year French and American oak barrels. The wine then rests for 2 years in the bottle.
Gómez Cruzado Reserva is a red wine of a classic Riojan style, which looks to balance the character of the fruit with the wood.
An excellent vintage in Rioja. With a mild autumn, and a cold and rainy winter, the growth season began with enough resources for the perfect development of the vines. During this period, there were no pests and diseases until the end of the growth cycle. During the harvest, there were no significant rains, so the health and ripening of the grapes were excellent. A great year with great aged wines that can be stored for a long time. Perfect balance between the most amiable tannins and the good acidity, which give these wines an extraordinary length.
2010 was considered the perfect vintage after some very good years. An optimal growth cycle, without incidents regarding the health of the vineyards. The harvest took place during a magnificent state of the vines and with a moderate production, with good fruit setting and slow ripening. A great year with excellent ageing potential, which resulted in spicy and fruity wines, with a very good structure and acidity.
Rioja is one of the most important areas of wine production in the world. It has a long history, and exceptional soils and climates. From the Tempranillo and Grenache varieties they make great red wines that are masterfully aged which demonstrates the experience passed from generation to generation.

Gómez Cruzado is now the ‘boutique winery’ of Barrio de la Estación in Haro. It is a century-old project that gathers the necessary ingredients to make wines of the highest quality. On the one hand, they preserve the classic style, as can be seen in the ‘vinos finos’ of Barrio de la Estación in Haro, but they also know how to value the land with the production of other wines linked to the landscape. Tense, with a bit more nervo, clean and honest.
