Characteristics of Goliardo Loureiro

Goliardo Loureiro is a red wine that is produced by the winery Forjas del Salnés in the appellation of origin Rías Baixas.

Forjas del Salnés is a small family business established in 1912 that has been using traditional methods which have been passed down from generation to generation to the members of the Méndez family.

Since 1995, they have been working in collaboration with the great winemaker Raúl Pérez, one of the most influential characters on the Spanish wine scene. Working alongside Rodrigo Méndez, to create wines with a great personality and extremely high in quality.

Goliardo Loureiro is produced from the varietal Loureiro, a native grape that has been practically forgotten about in recent years, originating from old wines planted near to the sea.

The grape is destemmed and cold macerated. Goliardo Loureiro is fermented in steel containers and a controlled temperature for 12 months in French oak barrels of 225 litres used by 3-4 wines.

Goliardo Loureiro is a red wine from land that is more or less perfect for white wines with a strong personality for the varietal Loureiro, this brings it a special character.

Tasting notes Goliardo Loureiro

The 2017 vintage has been distinguished by the excellent health of the vineyard and the intense heat. Winter and spring were warmer than normal, accelerating the growth cycle 15 days and which was prolonged during summer, bringing forward the date of the harvest to the end of August. The growth cycle went smoothly, with good flowering and no notable pests. In summer, the drought worsened and in August they began to see symptoms of dehydration in the bunches. However, rains at the beginning of September restored the balance of the vineyard. The wines of this vintage are identified by having something more volume due to its warmth and great freshness. A vintage to enjoy young, or as it is the norm for great wines of the area, to save for a few years.
Sight Beautiful cherry red with a purple border. Nose On the nose there is a predominance of aromatic fruits. Ripe black and red fruits combined with floral memories, herbal notes and toasted undertones. A pleasant mineral base.
Taste Goliardo Loureiro is very fresh in the mouth. Elegant, intense, pleasant and light. Very good acitidy. A well-structured wine with marvellous balsamic and salty memories and a very pleasant fruity finish.
Sight

Nice cherry red colour, intense and brilliant very dense tear.

Nose Black fruit with floral notes, spices, toasted notes and great mineral background. Taste

Very cool and very pleasant aftertaste. Elegant, silky, intense and with good acidity.

Balsamic and salt memories.

Sight Intense and bright attractive dark cherry colour with purple and intense red edges and a high robe. Dense slow-falling tears. Nose Intense aromas with a certain salinity that stays in the background and wraps the whole set. Intense and expressive notes of black fruits mixed with great notes reminiscent of the terroir. Its very creamy spicy notes, its elegant floral aromas and its great toasted aromas slowly emerge and melt into a great aromatic group. Taste Very fresh, with a very nice red wine, with a broad and embracing attack. The aromas felt on the nose are noticed again in a very good balance with its elegant, very delicated and refined saline background. Excellent acidity that refreshes its silky and intense mid palate. Integrated tannins and a long and very persistent finish.  A friendly, elegant and surprising wine.
Sight Intense cherry colour with purple edges. Dense tear. Nose Good intensity, with wood and balsamic notes in the foreground. When opened, the fruity and floral aromas increasingly gain intensity. Its spicy, herbal and milky notes form a good background. Very expressive and complex wine with very clean flavours. Taste Intense , large and bulky attack. Velvety and smooth mid palate. Its well integrated notes of wood and fruit emerge along with some saline feelings. Good and marked acidity, but well appreciated as it gives a certain freshness to the wine and counteracts its warmth and power. Nice, long and very persistent finish. A very elegant, different and easy-drinking wine.

Designation of Origin D.O. Rías Baixas

Winery Forjas del Salnés

Rías Baixas wines would not be where they are today without the native Albariño grape variety. Although red wines are also produced in Rías Baixas, practically 100% of Rías Baixas wines are white. Among them, the vast majority of them are made with the Albariño grape. As well as young wines, fresh and aromatic, the region also makes wines aged in the barrels, complex wines with great personalities. Albariño wines can either be single varieties, or be part of a blend with other characteristic grapes of the region: Treixadura, Loureira Blanca and Godello.

Forjas do Salnés is one of those wineries from Galicia with a rebellious and ground-breaking spirit, that seriously opted to make high-quality red wines in an area with a prevailing production of whites. The recovery of century-old vineyards of hardly known red varieties, such as Caíño, Espadeiro and Loureiro, in addition to the white Albariño from the old vineyard, are the base of their wines and a clear reflection of the terroir: wines full of freshness, with a perfect minerality, ample sensations and with a surprising evolution.
