Gago is a red wine produced by the Telmo Rodriguez winery in Toro. Telmo Rodriguez is a wine company that produces wines of different Spanish origins (Malaga, Alicante, Rioja, Rueda ...). In all areas where the winery produces wines, they always try to use local varieties.
Gago is a varietal Tinta de Toro from old vines over 40 years old located in the town of Zamora. The vineyards are grown on slopes facing east, at an altitude of 650m on well-drained soils of varying texture and deep gravel.
Its development begins with a manual harvest and transportation of grapes in boxes. In the cellar, the wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts at a temperature of 28 ° C in closed stainless steel tanks. Maceration with skins is performed for 20 days.
After the fermentation process, Gago spends 14 months in foudres of 1500 litres and 225 litre barrels.
Before bottling, this wine is not filtered or clarified.

D.O. Toro is a Denomination of Origin that is situated in the north west of Spain, along the River Duero and its tributaries. From the beginning the Tinta de Toro variety has produced great red wine that is full of flavour and complexity: powerful and full bodied with great tannins.
Over the years, Telmo Rodriguez, has built a reputation as a pioneering, and perhaps as one of the best, "driving wine-makers”, or rolling oenologist, i.e, a winemaker who moves around different areas to to produce various wines during the same harvest, using only native grape varieties of each region, focusing their efforts on the recovery of lost or forgotten vineyards and varieties. Telmo Rodriguez, who is more of a winemaker than a oenologist, is perhaps known worldwide as one of the intigators of Spanish Viticulture.

Elaborado con Tinta de Toro de unos 40 años de edad, cultivada en laderas orientadas al este y sobre suelos arcillo-calcáreos muy pedregosos a 650 metros de altitud. Fermentación a 28 º C de temperatura en depósitos de acero inoxidable cerrados. Maceración de 20 días con las pieles. La fermentación maloláctica se realiza un 60% en inoxidable y un 40% en madera. Crianza de 13 meses en barricas de roble de 1.500 L y barricas de 225 litros, nuevas y de un vino. Con este tipo de crianza se busca un mayor protagonismo de la fruta en el vino.
