Characteristics of Fuente Elvira
Fuente Elvira Verdejo is a white wine from the D.O Rueda produced by Pedro Escudero. This wine as its name indicated, is a Verdejo monovarietal.
The grapes originate from old vines, aged between 40-50 years old, grown on the Pago de Fuente Elvira. The soils are predominantly stony with a subsoil of clay.
The vines are found on the slopes and cultivated using techniques that respect the environment: organic fertilisers (animal) which prevents the need for herbicides or chemical products.
After the harvest, the grapes are transported quickly to the winery. There is a cold pre-fermentative carbonic maceration phase.
The must is subsequently fermented in stainless steel containers at a controlled temperature.
The D.O. Rueda is a denomination spanning across Castilla y León, along the River Duero and its tributaries. It is mainly white wines that are produced in this D.O., and Verdejo grapes are by far the most popular variety. With hints of flowers, fruit, scrub herbs and very fine aromas, these grapes give the wine a very strong personality.
