Characteristics of Frontonio Telescópico Garnacha
Frontonio Telescópico Garnacha is a red wine produced by Bodegas Frontonio, in Épila, V.T. Valdejalón.
Bodegas Frontonio was created in 2008 by three friends from Aragón, Fernando Mora, aspirant Master of Wine, Mario López, oenologist from Bodegas Borsao, and Francisco Latasa, lawyer and international trade expert.
The aim of Bodegas Frontonio is to dignify the area of Valdejalón and its vineyards, mainly planted with old Grenache, and with a continental-Mediterranean climate. In total, they directly manage around 50 hectares, with organic certification since 2017. Most part of the vineyards are located in the surroundings of Épila. They have different ages, exposures, altitudes and soil types. The climate is continental-Mediterranean with scarce rainfall (200-500 l/m2/year), 300 hours of sun per year, and days with a lot of wind, also called "Cierzo".
Currently, Bodegas Frontonio makes garage wines in the back room of a small winery of bulk wines. They process takes place with minimum intervention, plot by plot. As a result, we can find excellent wines, authentic and with a lot of character.
Frontonio Telescópico Garnacha is a wine made from Grenache from old vineyards between 35 and 60 years old, located in the villages of Épila, Morata and Jarque.
Harvesting is carried out manually, selecting the grapes in the vineyard. Once they arrive at the winery, they ferment in open concrete vats with native yeasts. The ageing takes place in used 300-litre barrels for 8 months, after the grapes have been 5 months in the deposit with their fine lees, where they also went through the malolactic fermentation.
Frontonio Telescópico Garnacha is a deep wine, very rich in shades. On the nose, the red fruit stands out with notes of Mediterranean grass. In the mouth, the minerality is the main feature, with a long and persistent finish.
