Characteristics of Frontonio Special Cuvee
Frontonio Special Cuvee is a single-variety Garnacha variety red wine made in the VT Valdejalón by the Frontonio winery.
This project, started in a humble garage in Épila (Aragón) by Fernando Mora, Mario López and Francisco Latasa, is named after the town’s patron saint. Legend has it that when he was beheaded by the Romans and his head thrown down the river, his head miraculously appeared upstream. Against the flow, just like this winery’s microvinofications that come from centuries-old vines. The result is a very limited and highly sought after production with great potential.
Frontonio Special Cuvee comes from vines in Valdejalón, a privileged area in Aragon lying more than 350 metres above sea level, with limestone and clay soils that make it ideal for cultivating the Garnacha variety. They practice environmentally-friendly agriculture and all the work is carried out manually.
When the Frontonio Special Cuvee 2017 grape reaches the winery, it is partially destemmed and vinification begins. Fermentation takes place at a constant temperature of between 22 and 24ºC, and then the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.
Frontonio Special Cuvee is a dry, fresh and intense red wine that allows you to see another side of the Garnacha that less rustic and more subtle. A long-living wine that critics anticipate will grow in value as the winery becomes more well-known.

Frontonio Special Cuvee 2017 is a concentrated wine with a deep garnet colour and aromas of ripe black fruits, balsamic notes and spicy black pepper touches. On the palate it is dry, fresh and velvety. It is complex and intense with well balanced wood and fruit.
Bodegas Frontonio was created in 2008 by three friends from Aragón, Fernando Mora, aspirant Master of Wine, Mario López, oenologist from Bodegas Borsao, and Francisco Latasa, lawyer and international trade expert. Fernando started making wines in his parents’ garage. Shortly after, his two friends joined him on this fabulous journey.
