Frontonio Microcósmico Macabeo is a white wine made by Bodegas Frontonio, in Épila, V.T. Valdejalón.
Bodegas Frontonio was created in 2008 by three friends from Aragón, Fernando Mora, aspirant Master of Wine, Mario López, oenologist from Bodegas Borsao, and Francisco Latasa, lawyer and international trade expert.
The aim of Bodegas Frontonio is to dignify the area of Valdejalón and its vineyards, mainly planted with old Grenache, and with a continental-Mediterranean climate. In total, they directly manage around 50 hectares, with organic certification since 2017. Most part of the vineyards are located in the surroundings of Épila. They have different ages, exposures, altitudes and soil types. The climate is continental-Mediterranean with scarce rainfall (200-500 l/m2/year), 300 hours of sun per year, and days with a lot of wind, also called "Cierzo".
Currently, Bodegas Frontonio makes garage wines in the back room of a small winery of bulk wines. They process takes place with minimum intervention, plot by plot. As a result, we can find excellent wines, authentic and with a lot of character.
Frontonio Microcósmico Macabeo is a wine made from Maccabeu from a 10-hectare vineyard of over 35 years old located in Épila, at around 500 metres of altitude, and planted on clayey-calcareous, deep soils, with boulders.
Harvesting is carried out manually, selecting the grapes in the vineyard. Once they arrive at the winery and after destemming, the grapes go through a skin-contact maceration at 8ºC for 6 hours. After the saignée of the flor must and the settling, the wine ferments in cement deposits at 16ºC for 15 days. When the fermentation ends, it remains in these deposits with its fine lees for 6 months. 10% of the wine is aged in used 500-litre oak barrels.
Frontonio Microcósmico Macabeo is a concentrated, complex and fresh wine. On the nose, the aromas of white and yellow fruit stand out, with very light spicy notes. In the mouth, it is very tasty and long.
