Characteristics of Frank Cornelissen Munjebel Feudo di Mezzo-Porcaria
Frank Cornelissen Munjebel Feudo di Mezzo-Porcaria is a young natural red wine made with the Nerello Mascalese variety by the Frank Cornelissen winery in the Terre Siciliane region (northern Sicily).
Frank Cornelissen is a Belgian winemaker who, having started from a very young age, has always chosen to use environmentally-friendly agriculture. Starting from the philosophy that wine is born and made in the vineyard, his work is extremely meticulous with very little intervention. With this in mind, he set up his winery in the Etna volcanic area. A valley located in northern Sicily (Italy) with geology and weather conditions that are as special as its wines.
Frank Cornelissen Munjebel Feudo di Mezzo-Porcaria is made from an old vineyard with 60-year-old vines planted at 640 metres above sea level in the town of Feudo di Mezzo. An emblematic place but also one where getting the grapes to optimum ripeness is a challenge. They do not use of any herbicides or pesticides. They work using ecological practices and biodynamic treatments instead. When the grapes finally reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested manually.
The harvested grape is destemmed and pressed lightly. Frank Cornelissen Munjebel Feudo di Mezzo-Porcaria then macerates with its own skins and ferments spontaneously in fibreglass tanks with native yeasts for 60 days. It is then left to age in 1,500 to 2,500-litre epoxy resin tanks. When it is ready, the wine is bottled without clarifying.
Frank Cornelissen Munjebel Feudo di Mezzo-Porcaria is a red wine that reveals all the virtues of a native variety from northeastern Sicily, the Nerello Mascalese, in its full mineral splendor.
