Characteristics of Frank Cornelissen Munjebel Chiusa Spagnolo
Frank Cornelissen Munjebel Chiusa Spagnolo is a natural young red wine made in Terre Siciliane (northern Sicily) by winemaker Frank Cornelissen using the Nerello Mascalese variety.
Frank Cornelissen is known for being a winemaker who is committed to the vineyard. This winery in the Etna volcano valley (Northern Sicily), works with the philosophy that the strain is in charge and aims to grow Nerello Mascalese variety grapes that are full of nuances and minerality. Using ecological practices and biodynamic treatments, they are able to produce natural wines that are perfectly structured and have plenty of body.
Frank Cornelissen Munjebel Chiusa Spagnolo comes from one of the winery’s lowest vineyards on Mount Etna, sitting at 620 metres above sea level. It is an amphitheater-shaped vineyard surrounded by lava, planted with ungrafted vines that are over 90 years old, and cultivated using organic farming methods and biodynamic treatments. The harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach their optimum ripeness.
Once the grape reaches the winery, it is selected, destemmed and pressed lightly. Frank Cornelissen Munjebel Chiusa Spagnolo then ferments spontaneously in fibreglass tanks with native yeasts and in contact with its skins for 60 days. It is then aged in 1,500 to 2,500-litre epoxy resin tanks. This wine is bottled without clarifying.
Frank Cornelissen Munjebel Chiusa Spagnolo is one of the most impressive wines in the Cornelissen range for its magnificent bouquet as well as its impeccable structure.
