Characteristics of Fraga do Corvo
Fraga do Corvo is a white wine from the D.O Monterrei produced by Grandes Pagos Gallegos. This wine is made exclusively with the Godello grape variety.
The grapes used to produce this wine come from vineyards owned by the winery, which are over 20 years old and grow on slopes on granite soils. The clusters are rigorously controlled during cultivation to ensure they produce the best quality. The harvest is carried out manually and the grapes transported to the winery in small 15kg capacity boxes, ensuring that the grapes do not rupture and ferment prematurely during transportation, losing their best features.
At the winery, the winemaking process begins with the clusters being placed in cold storage at controlled temperatures. The clusters then pass through a selection table, where only those in the best conditions are selected, where they are de-stemmed and macerated before passing through a pneumatic press. The musts are then separated and are static racked, followed by fermentation at a controlled temperature.
After the various phases of the winemaking process have been carried out, Fraga do Corvo is aged for 7 months on its lees. Finally before being bottled, the wine is stabilized in stainless steel tanks to reach sufficient maturity.
The Monterrei Valley is often only considered for the cultivation of cereals, fruit trees and other horticultural products, but the Valley is today one of the most dynamic regions in terms of wine production. The transformation and improvement of viticulture and the installation of wineries such as Terra de Gargalo (owned by Roberto Verino), Pazos del Rey, Quinta do Muradella, Lobazán and Valdevellos, among others, have contributed to increased production of quality wines within designation of origin, which are becoming ever more present in the main Spanish markets.
