Characteristics of Forjas del Salnés Goliardo Tinto
Forjas del Salnés Goliardo is a wood-aged red wine made by Forjas del Salnés with the Caíño Tinto, Loureiro and Espadeiro native varieties in the D.O. Rías Baixas, in Galicia.
With more than 100 years of winemaking experience, Forjas del Salnés is located in the town of Meaño, in Pontevedra. It is passed down from generation to generation and currently run by José Manuel Méndez Lázaro and Rodrigo Méndez Arosa. They are advised by prestigious Bercian winemaker Raúl Pérez and their focus is on native varieties and the expression of the terroir itself.
Forjas del Salnés Tinto comes from old vines planted on pebble, sandy and granite soils. These are native variety vines that vary in age between 45 and 180 years old. The grape is harvested manually when it reaches optimum ripeness.
In the winery, Forjas del Salnés Tinto ferments spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The wine then ages in 225 and 500-litre oak barrels and 1,500-litre oak foudres for 12 months.
Forjas del Salnés Tinto is a blend of typical Rías Baixas varieties and made by Raúl Pérez in a way that reveals an Atlantic freshness and unparalleled elegance.
