Characteristics of Flor de Vetus Verdejo

Flor de Vetus Verdejo is a white wine from Rueda produced by Bodega Vetus. The winery is located in Villabuena del Puente (Zamora).

Flor de Vetus is a 100% Verdejo. The grapes come from old vines located in the westernmost part of Rueda in Segovia, at an altitude of about 900 metres. The vineyards are planted on hillsides with very sandy soils

Its development begins with a manual harvest during the last week of August. After crushing and stemming the grapes, fermentation is done in stainless steel.

Before bottling it is clarified and stabilized cold.

Tasting notes Flor de Vetus Verdejo

Flor de Vetus Verdejo 2016 is a light, dry and aromatic white wine. A very fragrant vintage, with aromas of tropical white fruit, citrus and notes of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate it is lively and lingering.
The 2016 vintage, rated as very good, began with an autumn and winter with high temperatures for these seasons that predicted an acceleration of the vines’ growth cycle. At the beginning of the spring, temperatures fell and rainfall returned to normal figures. This fact was translated in an adjustment as far as budding and flowering dates. At the beginning of June, the heat arrived and stayed all summer until the beginning of the harvest. In general terms, it was a rainy and somewhat warm year. The wines of this vintage are characterised for being aromatic and with a good acidity. Where wines in their youth will preserve their aromatic and fresh features.
The 2015 vintage was rated as very good in a year where no climatic accident occurred. Autumn and winter were somewhat warmer than normal but with normal rainfall. In spring, the growth cycle started a few days in advance, but temperatures and rains continued normally until the beginning of summer. Days before the harvest, temperatures became milder and the end of ripening was very good. The wines of this vintage are characterised by a good balance between maturity and acidity. A good aromatic profile that will age correctly.
Sight Pale gold with green hues. Clean and bright. Nose Medium-high aromatic intensity. Predominance of white fruit (pear, peach) and tropical fruits (mango) with herbaceous and floral notes. Mineral background. Taste Light and fruity entry. Fresh step and good acidity. Presence of citrus and floral and mineral notes. Long finish.
Sight A nice pale golden colour with greenish reflections. Clean and very bright. Nose Clean, fragrant and expressive aromas. Medium-high intensity. Tropical fruit such as lychee and mango stands out along with citric nuances, floral notes and hints of freshly cut grass. Mineral hues are noticed in the background. Taste On the palate this Spanish wine is fresh, fruity and floral with a good acidity. Long finish with good persistence leaving citrus aromas at retro-olfaction.

    Designation of Origin D.O. Rueda

When we talking about the Rueda wines, we are often referring to their white wines. The white wines produced in this region are often made with the Verdejo variety, the main variety of Rueda, planted along the Douro River and its tributaries. Rueda white wines often offer lots of floral notes, scrubland low, delicate aromas and a great acidity given by strong temperature differences between day and night. Apart from white wine, Rueda also produces red wine, often made with the Tempranillo variety.
