Characteristics of Finca Sobreño 14.99 Al Filo de la Ley
Finca Sobreño Roble is a red wine with D.O.Toro, produced by Bodegas Sobreño in the municipality of Toro (Zamora).
Bodegas Sobreño started its journey in the late 90s, when the San Ildefonso family, originally from Laguardia (Rioja), decided to buy 80 hectares of vineyard and build a new winery in the municipality of Toro.
Currently, half of the vines are planted in vase shape and are more than 30 years old, while the other part is cultivated in espalier since 1999. 25% of them have organic certification. They also control 90 hectares owned by winegrowers of the area.
The philosophy of Bodegas Sobreño is based on making quality wines, keeping the traditional cultivation method, with an excellent grape, small sized, with good ripeness and controlling the production.
Finca Sobreño Roble is a wine made from Tinta de Toro, from their own vineyards.
Grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected. Once they arrive at the winery, they are destemmed. Then, they macerate for 4 days at 10ºC before fermentation. The fermentation takes place at a maximum temperature of 26ºC. The maceration lasts around 15 days. When it has ended, the wine is transferred to American oak barrels that are less than 4 years old. Here, the wine is aged for 6 months. Before it is launched on the market, it is left to stand in the bottle for a minimum of 4 months.
Finca Sobreño Roble is a juicy, ample and fresh wine. Very fruity with just the right ageing to give it structure and length.

Tasting notes Finca Sobreño 14.99 Al Filo de la Ley
This is an excellent vintage in D.O. Toro. With a somewhat particular autumn due to scarce rainfall and slightly higher than normal temperatures. It wasn’t until early January that the rainfall went back to normal. From February to March, temperatures and rainfall were normal, so the water reserves and the growth cycle began correctly.Budding and flowering were delayed for a few days due to low temperatures in May.The high temperatures start at the end of June, boosting the flowering and growth process. The summer went by without any major weather events until mid-September, when light rains and a drop in temperatures led to a slower ripening until the start of the harvest, which arrived with an optimum degree of ripeness. The wines of this vintage present a great balance between ripeness and acidity. Wines fresh in their youth and prepared to age perfectly.
This year, which was described as a very good one, started with high temperatures that did not lower until the end of November. There were also quite low water reserves. In the early spring, temperatures began to rise, leading to the first bleedings of the vines. The beginning of the growth cycle did not present any major upheavals, except for the low humidity due to the lack of rain during the winter. During May, the vines began to develop their buds, causing the flowering during the first week of June. When they started to ripen, the drought and the stress on the vines was evident. At the end of August, there a certain amount of rain helped to hydrate the bunches, which helped to collect the healthiest grapes. As a result, we have a year with wines of a concentrated profile and some acidity. Perfect in their youth and with a medium ageing capacity.

In Toro, the red wines are mainly made with the Tinta de Toro grape variety, planted on soils of fluvial origin by the influence of the Duero River and its tributaries, grown on poor, sandy and dry soils the further away you move from the river. Toro offers powerful wines, well bodied, flavourful, complex, and tannic. Although on a smaller scale, the region also produces white wines using the Verdejo and Malvasía varieties. Since the ´80’s, Toro has experienced a revival in its wines, thanks to a new generation of highly skilled winemakers and the installation of many big names in the region, such as Pintia, a winery belonging to the Vega Sicília group, or Teso la Monja, part of Sierra Cantabria.
The wineries are located on the banks of the Duero DO Toro, is a modern winery and adapted to the latest technologies being one of its business principles. The wines made with the old vine Tempranillo. Sobreno focuses on red wines, clean, bright and well balanced with strong character.
