Characteristics of Finca Sandoval

Finca Sandoval is a red wine from Manchuela produced by the winery that bears his name. Finca Sandoval is the personal project of Victor de la Serna, chronicler of wines along with the winemaker Rafael Orozco.

The farm has 10 hectares of vineyards in four different terroirs of different soil types and different orientations. The main objective is to achieve maximum varietal expression and complexity. Finca Sandoval is a blend of foreign varieties, e.g. Syrah, and native varities such as Bobal and Monastrell. Each variety is vinified separately and is aged in different barrels. The result is a wine with personality obtained from the perfect blend of all terroirs, variety and different types of oak.

Tasting notes Finca Sandoval

Sight

Cherry colour with a garnet rim of medium intensity.

Nose

It is a wine that needs time to express itself. Toasted and mineral notes are accompanied by rather ripe fruit and a touch of violets, typical of well ripened Syrah.

Taste

It is a sweet wine with an integrated acidity. It is meaty, tasty and complex.

Sight A picota cherry colour with a maroon rim. Medium intensity.  Nose This red wine needs time to express itself. Toasted notes and minerals are perceived, followed by ripe fruit and a touch of violet, typical in well-ripened Syrah grapes.  Taste An appetising, fleshy, tasty and complex with with a well-integrated acidity.
Sight Beautiful dark cherry colour with purple edges. Very bright wine with a high layer and dense tears.
Nose Powerful and very pleasant aromas. The notes of ripe and juicy black fruit take centre stage along with the aromatic touches of flowers and the elegant roasted aromas. When it opens up, its sweet spicy notes are released and the notes of fruit become more sweeter. They are noticed along with some mineral aromas and notes of the terroir. Taste Very good wine, which seduces us from the first plunge. It coats the mouth with intense notes of very sweet ripe black fruit and creamy notes provided by the oak. It has a velvety mid palate with an excellent acidity that provides the right freshness to the wine. It is perfectly balanced and its polished tannins are fully integrated. Very long and very persistent finish.
Sight Cherry pillory practically opaque. Nose Aroma of good intensity, a bit closed at first, with notes of charcoal in the foreground (peat), black fruit and floral memories. Taste The mouthfeel is medium bodied with good acidity, fresh, flavorful and expressive, with a good fruit, silky tannins and a long finish.

Designation of Origin D.O. Manchuela

Winery Finca Sandoval

Over the past few years, the DO Manchuela has worked extensively on improving the quality of its wines, and it is clear that its efforts have paid off. Improved technological advances and greater knowledge in the cultivation of their vineyards have launched the region into a new era. The wines produced here are enjoyed both in the domestic and the international market, with 80% of production sold internationally. Harvests are now carried out slightly sooner to produce slightly subtler wines, with the skins being separated from the must to get more subdued colours, while the wines are cold stabilized and undergo fermentation in controlled temperatures, in search of fruity aromas.

Finca Sandoval is the personal project started by Victor de la Serna, the wine journalist and writer, in 1998. It is essentially based in the production of his own 10.5 ha  vineyards planted with syrah in the heart of Cuenca within the Designation of Origin Manchuela, on calcareous and clay soils at an altitude of 770 m. They were planted on the base of the knowledge acquired over 30 years on the soils of the area, which have an enormous potential for the production of high quality wines, especially red.
