Characteristics of Finca Río Negro Gewürztraminer
Finca Río Gewürztraminer is a white wine from the V.T Castilla produced by the Finca Río Negro winery. As suggested by the name, this is a single variety wine made with the Gewürztraminer grape, a grape from Central Europe that is becoming ever more popular in Spanish wine.
The grapes used to make this wine come from four and a half hectares of the wineries vineyards planted back in 2005 and are cultivated using the single Cordón Royat trellising system. The vineyards are home to soils with limestone park rock with a first clay layer and presence of pebbles.
At the winery, the grapes are left to macerate for 20 hours and subsequent devatting of free-run juice. Fermentation is then carried out at a fixed temperature of 16ºC. Before being bottled, this wine is aged for 4 months in stainless steel tanks.
The Finca Río Negro winery spans across 600 hectares of land, with its facilities located in the centre. The winery is owned by the Fuentes family, who at the end of the ´90’s decided start afresh and set out on a mission to help recuperate winemaking and viticulture in the local region. Their wines stand out for their colour, aroma and profound complexity.
