Characteristics of Finca La Emperatriz Reserva
Finca La Emperatriz Reserva is a red wine produced by the Finca la Emperatriz winery in the Rioja.
Finca la Emperatriz is a historic winery. Its name comes from the French Empress Eugenia of Montijo, wife of Napoleon III, who was the owner of the vineyard in the late nineteenth century. Finca La Emperatriz Reserva is a blend of Tempranillo (94%) with a small proportion of Grenache (3%), Viura (2%) and Graciano (1%), all typical varieties of La Rioja.
The grapes come from old vines over 60 years old, planted on a white rocky soil with a sandy loam surface.
A soil with good drainage, and the white colour of the stone helps facilitate a greater insolation of grapes. A poor, hard ground, which gives the wines a personal elegance and mineral nuances.
The vineyard is planted at 570 metres, with a continental climate tempered by the influence of the Cantabrian Sea.
The harvest is done manually. The process begins with fermentation, which occurs at a controlled temperature of 23 degrees before a soft maceration for 8 days. Finca La Emperatriz Reserva is aged in American oak barrels (70%) and French oak barrels (30%) for more than 20 months.
An elegant red wine, a fresh and complex Rioja.

La Rioja is one of the most important areas of wine production in the world. It has a long history, and exceptional soils and climates. From the Tempranillo and Grenache varieties they make great red wines that are masterfully aged which demonstrates the experience passed from generation to generation.
Finca La Emperatriz is a relatively young winery in La Rioja that cultivates its vineyards with millimetric precision. They are parcelled out to produce modern wines, both in classic coupages with grapes of different varieties and plots, to achieve round, balanced and tasty wines. Just as in their single-vineyard wines, which show the personality of the grape and the character of the specific terroir where they come from.
