Characteristics of Finca La Emperatriz Garnacha
Finca La Emperatriz Garnacha is a red wine from the appellation of origin (D.O) Rioja produced by Finca La Emperatriz, in Baños de Rioja (La Rioja Alta).
This winery established in 1996 when the Hernaíz brothers acquired an estate of land during the 19th century which had been the property of Eugenia de Montijo, the wife of Napoléon III and the Empress of France.
Finca La Emperatriz Garncacha is a monovarietal of Garnacha. The grapes originate from the same estate, number 5, these are old vines reaching 65 years old, cultivated from sandy and stony soils.
The harvest is manually completed in small boxed normally on the 16-18th of October.
Once at the winery the grapes receive a Pellicular maceration process at 5ºC for one week. The grapes are transferred to open French oak barrels that can contain 500 litres with daily manual over pumping.
After the winemaking process, the wine is aged for 11 months on its lees in French oak barrels of 500 litres.

La Rioja is one of the most important areas of wine production in the world. It has a long history, and exceptional soils and climates. From the Tempranillo and Grenache varieties they make great red wines that are masterfully aged which demonstrates the experience passed from generation to generation.
Finca La Emperatriz is a relatively young winery in La Rioja that cultivates its vineyards with millimetric precision. They are parcelled out to produce modern wines, both in classic coupages with grapes of different varieties and plots, to achieve round, balanced and tasty wines. Just as in their single-vineyard wines, which show the personality of the grape and the character of the specific terroir where they come from.
