Characteristics of Ferrer Bobet
Ferrer Bobet is a red wine from the Priorat region produced by the Ferrer Bobet winery. The wine is a blend of 4 different grape varieties; Cariñena (48%), Garnacha Negra (22%), Syrah (23%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (7%).
The grapes used to make Ferrer Bobet come from young vineyards that were planted between 2004 and 2006, located on slopes. The soil type is llicorella, which is the flagship type of the region.
The harvest is carried out by a careful selection of the grapes in the vineyard. They are harvested manually and are transported to the winery in small boxes with a 10kg capacity, which ensures that the grapes do not break or ferment before they have to. Once at the winery, the bunches pass through a second selection process, this time on a selection belt.
The grapes used to make Ferrer Bobet then ferment in tanks that have a 15-30 hl capacity. The containers are made with diverse materials: wood, stainless steel and cement.
Then before being bottled, Ferrer Bobet rests in french oak barrels, 60% of which are new, for nine months.
The Ferrer Bobet winery is lead by two old Friends: Sergi Ferrer-Salat and Raül Bobet. According to them, the wine functions on the basis of respect: respect towards nature, towards the Priorat region, towards the land and towards eachother.
Priorat is craftsmanship and tradition, old and robust vines that are grown and born deep inside the province of Tarragona. They are grown on slopes that are sleety with low fertility and difficult to grow in. In Priorat they produce great red wines of an excellent quality, a maroon colour, robust, dense and rich flavour, intense aromas and sometimes there are reflections present of minerals from the soils.
Ferrer Bobet has in the space of a few years managed to become one of the most established wineries in the DOQ Priorat, a feat that has taken other winemakers decades to achieve. Since they released their first wines back in 2008, the prestige of this winery has done nothing but grow. Based on their own merits, they have gained the trust and respect of consumers, with their wines consistently ranking within the top positions in national and international wine guides. The winery’s two founders, Sergi Ferrer-Salat and Raül Bobet, have lead this project with the philosophy of producing different and unique wines with very clear ideas. In record time, they have managed to catapult this idea into what is today now a long term project.
