Felton Road Dry Riesling is a biodynamic white wine aged on lees made with the Riesling white variety in Central Otago (New Zealand’s South Island) by the Felton Road winery.
Located in the mining town of Bannockburn, in the heart of Otago, Felton Road is a modern winery built on three levels to make use of gravity. The founder, passionate about Pinot Noir and Riesling, knows how to get the best out of these two varieties by applying biodynamic principles and minimal intervention during the winemaking process. As a result, he produces deep, complex wines with a charming fruit expression.
The winery has a total of 32 hectares of their own vineyards, and the Felton Road Dry Riesling grapes grow in shale gravel soils with a fine layer of loess. The team uses biodynamic agriculture with plant preparations and cover crops between rows to help balance the vine, terroir and biodiversity in general. The harvest is carried out manually to guarantee optimum quality fruit.
In the winery, the Felton Road Dry Riesling grapes are carefully selected and pressed. After resting for 7 days, they are transferred to stainless steel tanks where the must is fermented with native yeasts for 8 weeks until the level of residual sugar is at 4g/l. Finally, the wine rests on lees before bottling.
Within the diverse collection of Riesling white wines made by this winery, Felton Road Dry Riesling is a dry, exotic and mineral wine. A very powerful mineral expression.
