Eulogio Pomares Penapedre is a red wine from a plot of Eulogio Pomares from the D.O. Ribera Sacra.
The vineyard for Eulogio Pomares Penapedre is located in Esperón, between A Cova and Portotide, in the Ribera del Miño. It is a vineyard of 0.66 hectares with a steep 63.1% slope, oriented to the south and with a granitic soil. The strains are up to 150 years old, so it is a really old vineyard. The varieties planted there are Mencía 64%, Grenache 21% and Sherry 14%. Formerly, the coupage was often done while still in the field.
Eulogio Pomares Penapedre is harvested manually, and a selection of the grapes is performed while still in the plot. The whole grapes subsequently undergo a gentle treading to extract the must in an open chestnut foudre. Alcoholic fermentation begins spontaneously, and once finished, a post-fermentation maceration is carried out with the skins for 2 weeks to extract more compounds from the skins and to be able to carry out a subsequent ageing. Lastly, it is pressed and subjected to ageing in French oak barrels for 12 months. This wine is bottled without clarifying or filtering.
The production of Eulogio Pomares Penapedre is very limited - some 1,200 bottles. It is a wine that stands out for its uniqueness.
