Characteristics of Espelt Quinze Roures
Espelt Quinze Roures is a white wine from the Empordà, prepared by the Espelt bodega. This winery is located in Vilajuïga (Girona).
Espelt Quinze Roures is made from Grenache gris (50%), the local variety of the area, and Grenache (50%). The grapes come from very old vines planted between 1906 and 1973 on shallow soils and slopes, in the area of Rabós.
To prepare Espelt Quinze Roures, each variety undergoes the process separately. The Grenache gris, meanwhile, is cold pressed with very low yield in order to prevent a pink wine being produced. Both varieties perform a separate fermentation in French oak barrels of 500l.
After this, the blend is made and Espelt Quinze Roures is aged for five months in barrel. Finally, before bottling, it is allowed to stand on its lees in the same barrels.
