Characteristics of Eric Texier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes

Eric Texier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes is a natural monovarietal red wine made from Grenache. It belongs to the AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape and is produced by Eric Texier.

Eric Texier worked in nuclear engineering but became a vigneron in the early 1990s. He settled in Brézème, in the north of Rhone Valley. He practices a minimalist viticulture and oenology, and attaches special importance to the management of the soils of his vineyards’ plots.

The vines for Eric Texier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes are very old: they were planted in 1904. They have an extremely low yield of 20 hectolitres per hectare, and produce a very balanced and concentrated grape. They are cultivated according to the principles of biodynamics.

The Eric Texier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes harvest ferments whole in open vats. It macerates with the skins for a week and is then pressed and aged for 24-months in 500 litre used barrels so that the wine can evolve but not become excessively affected by the wood . The wine is then stored for one month in a tank before being bottled.

Eric Texier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes is a red with touches of red fruit and spices; an enveloping and complex wine.

Tasting notes Eric Texier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes

Eric Texier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes 2015 has aromas of currant jam, black and white caramel and tobacco, and also offers somewhat ethereal hints. On the palate its flavour is unbridled, fresh and enveloping, with a well-integrated tannin and a lingering finish.
