Characteristics of Enate Syrah-Shiraz
Enate Syrah-Shiraz is a red wine produced by the Enate winery in Salas Altas (Huesca). D.O. Somontano.
Enate is a winery founded in 1991 that has quickly become a reference in the Spanish wine industry. Defining itself as a wine cellar of our time, where a passion for tradition coexists with today's modern techniques, Enate offers a wide range of wines that range from typical crianza and reservas to monovarietal reds and whites.
The winery’s vineyard of approximately 500 hectares is distributed throughout the municipalities of Salas Altas, Salas Bajas, Cregenzán and Basbastro. Located at an altitude of approximately 600 metres on very fertile limestone terrain. The climate in this area is continental, the temperatures are very cold in winter and hot in the summers.
Since its beginnings Enate has always enjoyed marrying wine with art, so much so that in 1992 it began to collect national and international contemporary art. Each wine bottle reproduces on its label the work of a well-known artist, created deliberately for the winery.
Enate Syrah-Shiraz is a wine made with Syrah grapes from the Alcanetos and Cregenzán valley vinyeards.
The grapes are harvested by hand and upon arrival to the winery they are fermented in small stainless steel tanks with temperature controlled at 26°C. After the fermentation and délestage process the wine is poured into new European and American oak barrels where it undergoes malolactic fermentation and aged for 16 months. Before being bottled, it is naturally stabilised in a stainless steel tank.
Enate Syrah-Shiraz is a concentrated, complex and persistent wine. Its aromas of ripe black fruit and floral, violet notes, fused with the roasted taste from the aging process make it unique. A wine that is loyal to its variety and terroir.

Today, the wines of the DO Somontano are characterised by their modernity, elegance and varietal personality. Just like Alsace, Chile, Australia and California, the DO Somontano is able to boast a tempting variety of truly international style white, rosé and red wines. The majority of wines produced in this region are single variety wines, using both native and international grape varieties, produced using varying winemaking techniques. As well as maintaining a high quality of wines, the Somontano region has managed to maintain fair prices in comparison to the competition, despite heavy economic investments by the wineries. Great quality and fair prices have helped wines from the region conquer much of the domestic market and openly compete with international markets.
Today, Enate is the brand of choice for many consumers and is known for its quality wines. This young winery is considered as one of the major players in the revolution of Spanish wine. The Enate winery has its own sense of identity, located in the Somontano region and is renowned on an international level. This winery produces wines using fine international grape varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay, as well as classic native varieties.
