Characteristics of Embruix de Vall-Llach

Embruix de Vall-Llach is a red wine from the Priorat elaborated by Celler Vall-Llach. This winery is located in the village of Porrera, east of Priorat (Tarragona).

Celler Vall Llach show a clear commitment to a custom winemaking, the production is very limited to enhance product quality.

Embruix de Vall-Llach is a blend of Grenache (35%), Carignan (20%), Syrah (20%), Merlot (20%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%) varieties. The grapes come from young vines between 6 and 12 years. Its preparation takes place using custom methods, each variety undergoes the process separately and in small tanks. The fermentation is conducted at a temperature of between 25 and 29 ° C for 17 days.

Subsequently, a post-fermentation maceration of 12 days is followed by a soft pressing and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks (50%) and barrels (50%).

Finally, the wine is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels

Tasting notes Embruix de Vall-Llach

We present the new 2016 vintage, characterised by the wettest winterin the last five years. Not only did it rain in winter, but there was also wet weather up until summer arrived, especially inMarch and April. In summer everything changed, and it was one of the driest inhistory, with only 28 litres being recorded between July and October. If we compare the temperatures in 2012 and 2016, the 2016 crophad to endure a much colder winter than in 2012, which turned outto be positive, since the frost cleared the fields ofvine parasites. During the spring, lower temperaturesthan in 2012 were also recorded.Due to all these climatic conditions there was a delay insprouting, which began on March 28th, and which led to a delayin flowering of between three and four weeks.Once the summer arrived, the Priorat got all the luck, sincethe rains disappeared, while in the rest of Europethey were incessant. It was something that nobody expected considering thewinter we’d had. Taking into account the delay insprouting, the harvest started around mid-October on some ofthe estates.Obtaining fresh wines with an extraordinary acidity is dueto this long duration of the grape in the strain that has so characterisedthis vintage.
The vintage began in autumn in the best possible way, with good rainfalls that would fill the water reserves for optimal growth development. Winter was characterised by low temperatures and even snow covered some areas of Priorat. March started wet and cold, which delayed the budding of the vines. In mid-May, flowering was encouraged and was followed by a somewhat unstable June with several rainfalls.
A year with a very good balance. This vintage was characterised by the absence of water stress for the plants. Winter and spring were favourable in terms of rainfall and temperatures were slightly higher than usual. At the time of budding, there was no rain, so the vines developed in a suitable manner. The flowering took place in a clean way and the Grenache vines settled in an excellent way. Summer was characterised by cool and dry days, but also humid, which led to good photosynthesis and growth of the plants. During the end of the summer, before the harvest, there was still some humidity, which preserved the freshness of the soil and, consequently, achieving a gradual ripening of the grapes, perfect to retain the aromas and the good acidity. The negative factor was the rain during the harvest days. In short, the vintage has been somewhat atypical for Priorat, with wines that are less voluminous than in a normal year in the area, but with a good acidity that is reflected in the wines and that will keep them optimal for many years.
Sight Cherry red high layer, clean and bright. Nose Great aromatic intensity, a presence of ripe black fruit (cherry and blueberry) with herbaceous and spicy notes. Slightly mineral background. Taste Powerful, and very fleshy input. Step is juicy with hints of black fruit. Well structured, good acidity and well integrated tannins. Lingering finish.
Sight Beautiful and intense cherry red colour, very covered. Bright, with a dense tear which slightly colours the glass. Nose In the nose, it is a powerful and concentrated wine of high intensity with a clear predominance of aromas of juicy very ripe red fruit, over pleasant toasted and balsamic hints and nuances of herbs from Mediterranean mountains. Mineral and spiced background. Taste In the mouth, it follows the same pattern than in the nose: it is a powerful, concentrated and fleshy wine. Very well-structured wine, with a high tannic sensation. Ripe tannins combined with a marvellous acidity which holds the alcoholic load. Very long and very persistent finish.

Mineral and spiced background. Taste In the mouth, it follows the same pattern than in the nose, concentrated, powerful and fleshy. Very well structured, with a high tannic sensation, ripe tannins very present and combined with a fantastic acidity which holds the alcoholic content. Very long and very persistent finish.
Sight Intense dark cherry colour with violet edges and dense, slow tears. Nose This wine is characterised by its intense, complex and expressive aromas. Before swirling the glass, nothing but intense notes of ripe fruit, with liquor hints, is noticed. Gradually, some light smoked notes appear. When the wine opens up, the fruit becomes more expressive and the toasted aromas become more intense. A great minerality also appears wrapped in sweet spices (vanilla, cocoa and cinnamon) and good notes of undergrowth. Very balanced at the end. Taste A wine with a soft and bulky attack that gives way to a very intense wine, with notes of fruit and fruit jam with good toasted notes and  fresh balsamic aromas. Long and greatly balanced mid palate, with a very silky texture. A tasty and even slightly mellow wine (especially because of the aromas of cocoa, creamy toffee and spices). Very good acidity that balances the whole set and ripe and well integrated tannins. Long finish with a great persistence. A very nice, mature and serious red wine. Very round.
Sight Intense dark cherry colour with violet edges. Dense and slow tears. Nose Powerful and complex aromas that remind us of the lands of Priorat. Many notes of ripe black fruit with some licorice touches are noticed along with noble woods' toasted aromas and a great charge of mineral notes (slate soils). When it opens up, the aromas gain in intensity and herbal notes (which remind of the Mediterranean forests), sweet spices (vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa) and fresh balsamic hints are also noticed. Taste Excellent wine from Priorat with a wide mouth-filling attack. Very tasty, smooth, gentle and warm mid palate. The notes of fruit are still present but the balsamic aromas gain ground. Ripe tannins. Very good, long and persistent finish which leaves a liquorised aftertaste. Very pleasant wine, perfect to meet the new wines of Priorat.
Sight Dark cherry opaque colour. Dense and persistent tear.
Nose Intense combination of flavors from the Priorat region: ripe fruit and aromas of vanilla, chocolate and roasted provided by the good wood with a note of slate (from the Priorat soils, which provide minerality to this wine). These aromas in the base are complemented by large herbaceous and balsamic notes.
Taste

Very well bodied Priorat red wine. Powerful attack and good volume.  Dense, warm and tasty mid palate with good presence of fruit and balsamic. Polished tannins and long finish.

Sight Cherry intense.
Nose Has the aromas of earth, damp earth, garrigue scrub and ripe blackberries. Aroma of warm character.
Taste In the mouth it is dense with nerve and with the entry of delicious Grenache, Carignan force ferésega of bitterness and a final reminder that the hard ground where he was born. Wine and warm with ripe tannins.

Production area D.O.Q. Priorat

Winery Vall-Llach

Priorat is craftsmanship and tradition, old and robust vines that are grown and born deep inside the province of Tarragona. They are grown on slopes that are sleety with low fertility and difficult to grow in. In Priorat they produce great red wines of an excellent quality, a maroon colour, robust, dense and rich flavour, intense aromas and sometimes there are reflections present of minerals from the soils.

Celler Vall Llach was created at the beginning of the 90s by the singer Lluís Llach and the notary public Enric Costa in Porrera, one of the nine villages that comprise D.O.Q. Priorat. It is a very small winery that chooses to carry out the controlled microproduction of its farms or “trossos” with the aim of always putting quality before quantity. For this reason, at Celler Vall Llach have established a limit to the extension of their production and growth. Their aim is to keep the personalised and exhaustive control of each one of their wines, which are considered to be fascinating and unique. This is why at Celler Vall Llach they turn the relationship between human beings and the land into a delicate balance between the effort of a hard cultivation and the enjoyment of unique results.
