Characteristics of El Perro Verde

El Perro Verde is a white wine from Rueda developed by Angel Lorenzo and his son Javier Cachazo in collaboration with Vila Viniteca. This is one of the Uvas Felices projects. This wine is a varietal Verdejo.

This wine comes from grapes from Rodillana, Bobadilla del Campo and "El Sotillo", located in the province of Valladolid. A quarter of the clusters come from each of the first two vinyards and the remaining half from the latter.

The harvest takes place in September. Once in the winery, the grapes are destemmed and squeezed. Subsequently, maceration occurs for twelve hours at a controlled temperature of 10 degrees. Finally, the wine is fermented at 18 ° C in stainless steel.

Tasting notes El Perro Verde

El Perro Verde 2017 is an aromatic white wine. In this excellent vintage, it has brought out all the aromatic potential of the Verdejo variety. A wine with a good, refreshing acidity that combines perfectly with the explosion of aromas.
The 2016 vintage, rated as very good, began with an autumn and winter with high temperatures for these seasons that predicted an acceleration of the vines’ growth cycle. At the beginning of the spring, temperatures fell and rainfall returned to normal figures. This fact was translated in an adjustment as far as budding and flowering dates. At the beginning of June, the heat arrived and stayed all summer until the beginning of the harvest. In general terms, it was a rainy and somewhat warm year. The wines of this vintage are characterised for being aromatic and with a good acidity. Where wines in their youth will preserve their aromatic and fresh features.
The 2015 vintage was rated as very good in a year where no climatic accident occurred. Autumn and winter were somewhat warmer than normal but with normal rainfall. In spring, the growth cycle started a few days in advance, but temperatures and rains continued normally until the beginning of summer. Days before the harvest, temperatures became milder and the end of ripening was very good. The wines of this vintage are characterised by a good balance between maturity and acidity. A good aromatic profile that will age correctly.
Sight Pale lemon yellow and green accents. Scintillating and neat, a light tear. Nose Medium-high intensity, very clean and expressive. Fruity with menthol touches and citrus. Taste Fresh entry with good acidity. Bitter and intense notes with a persistent finish. The aftertaste is fruity and floral and herbal notes.
Sight Nice and pale lemon yellow colour with greenish reflections. Clean and very bright. It has thin and light tears. Nose Clean and expressive medium-high-intensity aromas. It shows aromas of fresh white fruit, tropical notes, white flowers, citric hints, some grassy nuances and light menthol aromas. Taste On the palate, this white wine shows a fresh and quite bulky attack. It has a tasty mid palate, with a correct importance of fruit aromas, a good acidity and some bitter notes which provide it with an intense and quite persistent finish. It has a fruity aftertaste. Flower and aromatic herbs are felt at retro-olfaction.

    Designation of Origin D.O. Rueda

    Winery Uvas Felices

When we talking about the Rueda wines, we are often referring to their white wines. The white wines produced in this region are often made with the Verdejo variety, the main variety of Rueda, planted along the Douro River and its tributaries. Rueda white wines often offer lots of floral notes, scrubland low, delicate aromas and a great acidity given by strong temperature differences between day and night. Apart from white wine, Rueda also produces red wine, often made with the Tempranillo variety.
