Characteristics of El Pecado

El Pecado is a wine made by the great Raul Perez, who has become one of the most renowned wine makers in Spain for his wise appreciation of the Mencia grape variety, producing great wines of limited production.

Raúl Pérez makes wines in different areas and in collaboration with different wineries. El Pecado is made in the Guímaro cellar, a small family winery located in the Ribeira Sacra, using both the grape and the facilities of this winery. It is a single variety of Mencia from vines 100 years old, planted on a steep terraces in the canyon of the river Sil on slate soils and granite. The harvest is done manually and the winemaking is done traditionally. The grapes are trodden and fermentation local yeasts from the vineyard itself is carried out before the wine is aged for a year in oak barrels. El Pecado is one of the flagship wines of Raúl Pérez, a wonderful Mencia that, after several vintages with an excellent reception from critics, is poised to become one of the great Spanish wines. Nose

Very elegant nose. Red fruits, mountain herbs, incense and spices with a pleasant minerality.

Taste

In the mouth, el Pecado is a tasty, elegant and intense wine. It has good acidity and polished tannins.

Winery Raúl Pérez

The DO Ribeira Sacra is a region that perhaps paints one of the best pictures of heroic viticulture, having even been awarded recognition by CERVIM, the awarding body for this style of viticulture. The term ‘heroic viticulture’ refers to viticulture in areas that have a topography and soil conditions that complicate the work in the vineyards and make cultivating the vines and harvest a challenge. The region is home to an Atlantic climate, rivers as thermoregulatory agents, low rainfall, slate-schistose and granite soils, small sized plots and vineyards grown on steep slopes. The result is excellent wines with great personalities that truly express the dramatic and exciting nature of the landscape.
