Características de El Nido

El Nido is a great red wine made by Bodegas el Nido from D.O. Jumilla.
Bodegas el Nido belongs to the Gil Family Estates group, a group that also owns Juan Gil, Atalaya, Ateca and Shaya wineries among others.

El Nido is a coupage of Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and Monastrell (30%) varieties. The grapes are grown in a small, 12 hectare Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard and 32 hectares of Monastrell vineyards. Very old vineyards that have a very low yield but have a great grape quality.
The vineyards are planted around the winery, in Valle de la Aragona, with many surface stones. At 30-40 cm deep there is a layer of limestone, and below that is a very sandy soil where the roots can reach the nutrients.

The harvest is done by hand, and the grapes are transported to the winery in small crates that eliminate any premature breakage of the grapes.
Once at the winery the grapes are subject to a selection process.

El Nido undergoes a maceration and afterwards a fermentation in small stainless steel deposits and barrels. The malolactic fermentation occurs in new French and American oak barrels, where there is an aging for 24 months.

El Nido is one of the great wines from D.O. Jumilla. Full of flavour, complex and powerful. Marvellous. It can be kept in a good condition for 5 years.

D.O. Jumilla

Winery El Nido

DO Jumilla is located on a high plain in the eastern region of Spain, acting as a transition zone between the Mediterranean coastal area and the high central plateau of Castile-La Mancha. The vineyards of Jumilla are spread over the municipality of Jumilla, in Murcia, and six counties in the southeast of the province of Albacete: Ontur, Tobarra, Albatana, Hellin, Montealegre and Fuente Alamo. The main variety of the area is the Monastrell grape variety, a noble and robust variety which produces small bunches of small dark-coloured grapes very rich in sugars and other noble components.

Bodegas el Nido belongs to the Gil Family Estates group (Juan Gil Bodegas Familiares). Founded in 2002, The Gil Family Estates has formed a solid group that is currently composed of small wineries from various winemaking regions in Spain (Denominaciones de Origen). Because of this, Juan Gil Bodegas Familiares offers, with its commercial name, a wide portfolio of Spanish wines with different characteristics and backgrounds. All of the wineries involved have the common goal of producing high quality wines using native grape varieties, with unbeatable value for money. El Nido really brings alive this area of viticultural interest, having been conceived under the philosophy of empowering the identity of the terroir, as well as the personality and quality of native grape varieties.
