Characteristics of El Molar

El Molar is a red wine from Jumilla prepared by the Finca Casa Castillo winery. It is a varietal Grenache.

The grapes used for this wine are collected from fields located in trellises on the upland slopes of the Sierra del Molar. The climate is continental and Mediterranean and the vineyards, which grow on calcareous soils, were planted in 2005.

Alcoholic fermentation, which is carried out for two weeks at temperature of 30 degrees, is performed in open vats under the ground before maceration takes place without the skins. The subsequent malolactic fermentation takes place in foudres in contact with the lees. The wine is aged for 12 months.

The typical dryness of Jumilla, located in Murcia, along with low temperatures means that there are low levels of production yet with a high concentration.

Tasting notes El Molar

El Molar 2016 is a juicy red wine from a very good vintage in the area. With a slightly lighter profile due to colder years, it follows the path of the previous vintages. A lot of balanced red fruit with polished and tasty tannins.
Sight Cherry red with violet hues. Nose Red fruit and berries. Sensations of freshness and balsamic appear against a wooden background. Taste Very cool. Tasty and with a good acidity. Passing through the mouth it is smooth and interesting.

    To speak of Jumilla wine is to really refer to the Monastrell grape variety. In recent years Jumilla has undergone an impressive transformation. Once used as concentrated and highly alcoholic wines to give strength to weaker wines from other regions, the wines from Jumilla have managed to change this reputation, now enjoying prestige from all over the world. Flavourful wines, with body and concentrated. As well as red wines, the region is also known for their rosés, again produced with the Monastrell variety.

    In September of 2016, the person who raised the solid foundations of both the vineyard and the winery Casa Castillo, turned 80 years old. With a glass of wine in his hand, he remembers how the first grapes were vatted under his watchful eye 25 years ago. Today, he proudly watches as the continuity of his legacy is reassured by his family. Today, the main goal of Casa Castillo is to produce quality wines with the personality, flavour and character of each plot, which respect for the tradition of the area, and expressing the features of the land and the microclimate, as well as the particularities of the Mediterranean varieties, mainly on the native red variety Monastrell.
