Characteristics of El Dorado Albariño
El Dorado Albariño is a white wine produced by Bodegas Casa Monte Pío in Ribadumia (Pontevedra), D.O. Rías Baixas.
Bodegas Casa Monte Pío is a family-run winery that was founded in 1979 in Ribadumia (Val do Salnés). Their aim was to create wines that reflected the tradition of several generations, continuing with the activity in the vineyard.
The vineyard of Bodegas Casa Monte Pío is comprised of small plots, typical of the Galician smallholdings (minifundios). With an average age of 25 years, the vineyard is located in the heart of the subarea Val do Salnés. Soils are formed by sands with decomposing granite and the climate is humid oceanic with warm summers. The average annual temperature is one of the highest in Galicia, despite of high rainfall throughout the year.
To cultivate the vineyard they carry out an integrated production, using their resources and natural production mechanisms to the maximum extent. This way, they can ensure a sustainable agriculture in the long run.
El Dorado Albariño is a wine made from Albariño, from the oldest vineyards, located at around 60 metres above sea level, mainly on sandy soils.
Harvest is carried out manually and placed in 15-kg boxes. Once the grapes arrive at the winery, they are destemmed and gently pressed. The must goes through maceration for 6-8 hours and then it undergoes a settling process by gravity. Fermentation is spontaneous, carried out in stainless steel deposits at a controlled temperature. When it ends, the wine is left to stand for 6 months in stainless steel deposits on its fine lees with periodical batonnages. The wine is filtered before bottling.
El Dorado Albariño is an aromatic, ample and round wine. Great aromatic complexity where the varietal aromas of ripe white fruit stand out. In the mouth, it is fresh and extremely long.

Rías Baixas wines would not be where they are today without the native Albariño grape variety. Although red wines are also produced in Rías Baixas, practically 100% of Rías Baixas wines are white. Among them, the vast majority of them are made with the Albariño grape. As well as young wines, fresh and aromatic, the region also makes wines aged in the barrels, complex wines with great personalities. Albariño wines can either be single varieties, or be part of a blend with other characteristic grapes of the region: Treixadura, Loureira Blanca and Godello.
Casa Monte Pío is a family winery with defined Galician distinguishing marks. Thanks to the Albariño variety, planted in the heart of Valle del Salnés, it’s birthplace. Thanks to the influence of the ocean; in fact, some of the vineyards are literally planted next to the sea. Thanks to the small plots, typical smallholdings (minifundios) of the Galician landscape. Thanks to the way they train the vineyards, aiming to avoid the soil’s moisture.
