Characteristics of Donyet
Donyet is a red wine from the Montsant produced by the Venus La Universal winery. It is a blend of Grenache (30%), Carignan (30%), Merlot (20%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) varieties.
This wine is made from grapes from strains of around thirty years, grown on a farm in the town of Falset, where there is a predominance of granitic soil.
The vineyards are worked as organically as possible, while respecting the environment. Donyet is made with yeast, lactic bacteria and fruit acids.
Donyet is aged before marketing, for ten months in French oak barrels.
Donyet is the result of a collaboration between renowned winemakers Sara Pérez and René Barbier. This wine takes its name from a small elves or "donyets" - which, according to myth, attempt to ride horses during the night, holding on to their manse. Venus La Universal is an artisan winery, in which Sara Pérez and René Barbier seek to bring the essence of Montsant in each glass of wine using sustainable methods.

Montsant is situated in the province of Tarragona, surrounding the DOQ Priorat. Although a young Denominación de Origen, Monstant is located in a land with a large history in winemaking. The wines, mostly reds, are typically made with Grenache and Carignan grapes and are authentic, wild and artisanal. Wines produced in this region are usually extremely good value given the high quality.
Sara Pérez is one of today’s most prominent names of the Spanish wine scene. Part of the renowned Pérez Ovejero family, her father José Luis led the Priorat revolution back in the 80s, and she runs the Venus la Universal winery, in Montsant with her partner René Barbier Jr. A cool, young winery that works ecologically and sustainably to produce authentic terroir wines.
