Characteristics of Domaines Landron Les Houx
Domaines Landron Les Houx is a monovarietal Melon de Bourgogne white wine from the AOC Muscadet Sèvre et Maine, from the Loire area, produced by Domaines Landron.
Domaines Landron is a family winery founded in 1945 that works its vineyards in ecological since 1999 and in biodynamic since 2006 for the sake of affirming the identity of terroir. They vinify by plots, and cultivate them so that their differences can be fully expressed. Their wines are distinguished by their freshness and fineness, and their mineral touches.
The vineyards for Domaines Landron Les Houx are between 10 and 40 years old and are planted in gravel soils with quartz, sandstone and a clay subsoil. The vineyard management system is Single Guyot, and the planting density is high at 6,800 vines per hectare. They produce around 40 hl/ha. The grapes are harvested manually to respect their wholeness to the full.
The Domaines Landron Les Houx harvest is pressed whole when it arrives in the cellar. The must is nor tacked and goes on directly to ferment. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out with native yeasts and lasts for 2-3 weeks. Once vinified, it spends from 10 to 12 months on its fine lees in cement vats. Lastly, before bottling, the wine is stabilised cold so that no precipitations appear in the bottle.
Domaines Landron Les Houx is a biodynamic white wine aged on lees with touches of flowers and white fruit, which is structured and complex on the palate.
Domaines Landron Les Houx 2016 is a wine with discrete aromas of ripe yellow fruit and sweet, slightly smoked almonds. As it opens up it changes, and floral notes appear. On the palate it is structured and dense, complex, tense and salty, with a delicate lingering finish.
