Domaine l'Iserand Les Sabots de Coppi is a single-variety Syrah red wine produced by the Domaine l'Iserand in the AOC Saint-Joseph in the Rhône, France.
Domaine l'Iserand Les Sabots de Coppi is made with grapes that come from vines aged between 10 and 25 years old, growing in plots in the town of Ozon and planted in predominantly granite, loess, schist and mica soils. The vines are cultivated according to the principles of organic agriculture.
The grapes ferment, 90% in whole bunches, spontaneously and with their native yeasts in stainless steel tanks for about 18 days, depending on the vintage. The resulting wine is aged for 9 months in old demi-muids and a further 9 months in amphorae. Fewer than 3,000 bottles are made.
The name of this wine, Les Sabots de Coppi, means “Coppi’s hooves.” Coppi was Jean-François Malsert’s grandfather’s mule who was named after the famous Italian cyclist Fausto Coppi.
