Characteristics of Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée
Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée is a red wine made from Red Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and other varieties accepted in the AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It is produced by the Domaine du Pégau winery.
Domaine du Pégau is considered to be one of the main Châteauneuf-du-Pape winemakers. They produce a wide range of wines with the 70 hectares of vineyard they own. The average age of their strains is about 40 years, but some of them are over a hundred years old. They harvest when the grapes are fully ripe and vinify without adding commercial yeasts so that their wine fully expresses the fruit and the terroir.
The soils of the Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée vineyards consist of gravels mixed with areas containing more calcareous clay and sand. They are harvested manually so that a selection of the bunches can be made in the field, and only end up vinifying those grapes that fulfil the optimal conditions.
In the cellar, the bunches for Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée are not destemmed, but rather are vatted whole and the different varieties are vatted together. They ferment in cement vats without temperature control and with native yeasts for about 10 days. Lastly, the wine is gently sulphited and aged for about two years in oak foudres.
Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée is a complex and rounded red that evolves favourably over the years.

Tasting notes Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée
Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée 2014 has aromas of ripe red fruit, juniper, pepper and garrigue, which evolve after a few years of ageing towards plum-type stone fruit together with leather and somewhat animal touches. On the palate it is rounded, generous and powerful, and is supported by refined tannins. It also evolves towards more spicy and complex notes.
