Characteristics of Domaine de l'Ecu Gneiss
Domaine de l'Écu Gneiss is a monovarietal Melon de Bourgogne white wine from the AOC Muscadet Sèvre et Maine, in the Loire Valley, produced by Domaine de l'Écu.
Domaine de l'Écu is a winery run by Guy Bossard, who has been a pioneer in organic winegrowing and has practised it since 1975. In 1998 he took the next step by certifying his vineyards as biodynamic, and he farms each plot seeking to give it what it needs according to its particular characteristics.
Domaine de l'Écu Gneiss comes from a vineyard with 3 hectares of vines that are from 45 to 55 years old and exposed to the northeast. The harvest is carried out manually. The grape is pressed and vinified by fermenting with native yeasts in buried cement vats. Lastly, the wine ages for 10 months on lees in these same vats.
Domaine de l'Écu Gneiss is a fresh, fruity and mineral wine. A complex and pleasant wine.
Domaine de l'Ecu Gneiss 2015 is an elegant wine, with fruity aromas, citrus notes and those of white flowers like honeysuckle or jasmine, all accompanied by a pleasant mineral base note. On the palate it is smooth, dense, voluminous and vivacious, with a slight bitterness and mineral and grapefruit notes.
