Daterra Portela do Vento Blanco is a biodynamic white wine aged in amphora and made with the Godello, Palomino and Doña Blanca native white varieties in Ribeira Sacra (Galicia) by Daterra Viticultores.
Laura Lorenzo is the brains behind Daterra Viticultores, a winemaking project in the Manzaneda area, on the southeastern edge of the Ribeira Sacra (Galicia). It is an area of steep terraces where it is very difficult to work the land, but it offers unique soils and microclimate for making Atlantic wines with their own personality. These are limited production wines, made through the effort and passion of a young winemaker who is already a leader in minimal intervention winemaking.
Daterra Portela do Vento Blanco comes from old vines planted on the slopes of the Bibei Valley. These strains are planted at an altitude of 500-750 metres on granite soil with a sandy loam texture. They are cultivated using respectful agriculture based on biodynamic principles with plant preparations and following the lunar calendar. When the grape reaches optimum ripeness, it is harvested by hand.
In the winery, the Daterra Portela do Vento Blanco grapes are first destemmed, and following a 5-day skin-contact maceration, spontaneous fermentation begins with native yeasts. Finally, the wine ages for 11 months in amphorae and chestnut barrels. When the wine is ready, it is bottled without clarifying or filtering.
Daterra Portela do Vento Blanco is a white wine made from native varieties and with minimal intervention in the Bibei Valley. Maximum expression of a unique terroir.
