Characteristics of Daterra Camino de la Frontera Tinto

Daterra Caminio de la Frontera Tinto is a biodynamic red wine made by Daterra Viticultores with the Tempranillo, Rufete and Juan García varieties in the D.O. Ribeira Sacra.

After working at the Dominio do Bibei winery for years, the young winemaker Laura Lorenzo set up her own project in the Orense village of Manzaneda, southeast of Ribeira Sacra. Under the name Daterra Viticultores, the winery produces biodynamic wines with an Atlantic profile and unique character.

The Daterra Caminio de la Frontera Tinto vines grow on slopes with granitic soil and a sandy loam texture. This is a mixed vineyard with old strains of different native varieties, cultivated using biodynamic agriculture with organic treatments and natural preparations. The landscape of the vineyards means that machinery cannot be used, and the harvest is completely manual in 15 kg boxes.

Once the grapes reach the winery, 50% are destemmed and allowed to macerate for 13 days. Daterra Caminio de la Frontera Tinto ferments with native yeasts in 500-litre French oak barrels for 10 months. It is not clarified or filtered before bottling.

Daterra Caminio de la Frontera Tinto is a biodynamic red wine with an Atlantic character that is made through efforts to revive an abandoned winemaking area as naturally as possible.
