Characteristics of Cuvée Antonio Mascaró

Antonio Cuvée Mascaro is a Cava Grand Reserva Brut from Cava produced by the Antonio Mascaro winery. It is a blend of Parellada (50%), Macabeo (35%) and Chardonnay (15%).

The grapes are harvested from the Mas Miquel farm, located in the town of Aiguamurcia in Tarragona, owned by the winery.

The harvest is manual and the grapes are transported to the winery in small boxes to avoid damaging the grapes and prevent them from breaking and fermenting prematurely. Once in the winery, the grapes are pressed and alcoholic fermentation occurs at controlled temperatures.

Different varieties follow this process separately and only when it has completed this process does the blend take place, which is completed by the family winemaker.

After a second fermentation, Antonio Cuvée Mascaro is aged for at least 30 months in bottle. Antonio Cuvée Mascaró then undergoes various processes of "remuage", the method by which the yeasts are taken to the neck of the bottle for extraction.

The disgorgement, in which the second fermentation lees are removed, and the expedition liqueur are added are the final processes undergone by Antonio Cuvée Mascaro before being marketed.

A mask is a "fantastic face used as decoration in certain works of architecture". This is the symbol of the winery, which seeks to represent the idea of a mythical and fantastic being.

Tasting notes Cuvée Antonio Mascaró

Sight Sparkling amber. A fine bubble and fine tear. Nose Intense and fresh, nuances of mountain herbs, grapefruit and lime peel. Balsamic aromas with hints of liquorice on a soft floral background. Taste Good input, dry and stout. Long and harmonious finish.

Winery Mascaró

Cava was born under the constant shadow of its French counterpart, Champagne. However, produced over 1,200km away and a gap of over 100 years, Cava was always going to be a completely different product, even if produced using the same method and and sometimes with the same varieties. Firstly the climate and soil have a profound impact on the yields, while the plant strains that thrive here and completely different to those in the Champagne region. Fortunately, as more winemakers are becoming convinced of this, they are producing Cavas with their own personality, showing off the art of the second fermentation in the bottle like no other wine region in the world.
