Characteristics of Cruor

Cruor is a red wine from the D.O Priorat produced by Casa Gran del Siurana, a winery belonging to Grupo Perelada.

This winery is located in Bellemunt del Priorat (Tarragona), in a famous farmhouse like the 'Casa Gran'. For 3 centuries lived the Carthusian monks in the Scala Dei monastery, the monastic order that introduced winemaking to the Priorat.

Cruor is a blend of Garnacha Negra (40%), Cabernet Sauvignon (30%), Syrah (20%) y Cariñena (10%). The grapes originates from different estates, la Casa Gran and La Fredat.

Regarding production, after a traditional winemaking process in stainless steel containers, Cruor is aged for 12 months in 225 litre French oak barrels, 50% are new and the rest in second year.

Tasting notes Cruor

The vintage began in autumn in the best possible way, with good rainfalls that would fill the water reserves for optimal growth development. Winter was characterised by low temperatures and even snow covered some areas of Priorat. March started wet and cold, which delayed the budding of the vines. In mid-May, flowering was encouraged and was followed by a somewhat unstable June with several rainfalls.
A year with a very good balance. This vintage was characterised by the absence of water stress for the plants. Winter and spring were favourable in terms of rainfall and temperatures were slightly higher than usual. At the time of budding, there was no rain, so the vines developed in a suitable manner. The flowering took place in a clean way and the Grenache vines settled in an excellent way. Summer was characterised by cool and dry days, but also humid, which led to good photosynthesis and growth of the plants. During the end of the summer, before the harvest, there was still some humidity, which preserved the freshness of the soil and, consequently, achieving a gradual ripening of the grapes, perfect to retain the aromas and the good acidity. The negative factor was the rain during the harvest days. In short, the vintage has been somewhat atypical for Priorat, with wines that are less voluminous than in a normal year in the area, but with a good acidity that is reflected in the wines and that will keep them optimal for many years.
A year that started with some problems with the flowering but ended up being very good. Winter was colder and rainier than usual. Spring continued with days of low temperatures and a lot of water that delayed flowering and the consequent setting problems until the end of March, affected production. After a complicated year, when the summer began, the rains stopped and the temperatures rose, providing excellent ripening due to optimal rainfall during the year. The year has therefore been one of the best in recent years. Fluidity, acidity and concentration augur for a long life of the wines of this vintage.
Sight Intense cherry red with garnet reflections. Nose Aromas of red fruit with roasted and balsamic notes, combined with some smooth milky touches. Taste Wide and flavoursome. Unctuous and fresh with good presence of ripened red fruits. Appearance of mineral undertones. Mature tannins. Very long and persistent.
Sight Cherry red with maroon tones. Nose A balsamic aroma, with fine, delicate notes from its ageing in the barrel, spices and milky nuances. Taste Fresh, concentrated and elegant in the mouth. Ripe tannins noticed. On the palate this wine is enwrapping and round, with a long, deep aftertaste.
Sight Intense deep cherry colour with a maroon edge. Bright, medium-high robe with elegant, fine tears on the glass.
Nose Very expressive nose with intense aromas of ripe red and black fruit complimented by spices, subtle hints of Mediterranean woods and some surprising dried fruit. Toasted aromas take a back seat at first but gradually grow. Nice mineral background.
Taste Smooth attack. Tasty, silky, round and smooth on the palate with something warm. Very fruity, something liquorice, with intense toasted notes. Good structure and well-balanced, with body. Good acidity bringing freshness. Smooth, ripe tannins. Long finish with an elegant persistence leaving mineral notes and a pleasant fruity aftertaste. A fine, elegant wine.

Sight Deep cherry colour. Brilliant. Nose Intense aromas with a generous load of red berries and black fruits with notes provided by the ageing (roasted, smoked and cocoa) and nuts. Mineral touches typical of the wine of this area. Taste In the mouth, this is a round wine, with a smooth and tasty mid palate. Fresh acidity and fine tannins. Very balanced wine with a long and lingering finish and an aftertaste of strawberries and red fruits.
Sight Very deep cherry coloured wine with a garnet red edge. Nose It is very expressive on the nose, reminiscent of ripe red fruit with traces of Mediterranean forest herbs. It has a noticeable hint of aging, but this is not predominant. Taste It is modern, complex, and mineral, with a lingering and well-integrated acidity, which gives it freshness. The smooth, drawn-out tannins increase the good palate. It is a remarkable wine, principally for its refinement and elegance.

Production area D.O.Q. Priorat

Winery Casa Gran del Siurana

Priorat is craftsmanship and tradition, old and robust vines that are grown and born deep inside the province of Tarragona. They are grown on slopes that are sleety with low fertility and difficult to grow in. In Priorat they produce great red wines of an excellent quality, a maroon colour, robust, dense and rich flavour, intense aromas and sometimes there are reflections present of minerals from the soils.
