Characteristics of Coto de Imaz Gran Reserva

Coto de Imaz Gran Reserva is a red wine from Rioja produced by El Coto de Rioja, a winery that was founded in 1970 by a group of individuals with standing and experience in the wine world.

The winery is located in Oyón (Álava). The climate in this area is moderate continental with a large Mediterranean and the Bay of Biscay influence, although the Sierra de Cantabria acts as a natural barrier and protects the vines from cold winds from the north. This wine is a varietal Tempranillo from own vineyards planted on different types of soil: clay-limestone, clay-ferrous and alluvial. As for processing, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for 21 or 30 days and then performed a maceration to obtain a balanced wine and fruit extract. Finally, Coto de Imaz Grand Reserve remains a minimum of 24 months in American and French oak barrels and 36 months in bottle.

Tasting notes Coto de Imaz Gran Reserva

A good balance and few climate incidents define this vintage. The autumn began with mild temperatures and lack of rain. In March began the rain,as well as the development of the vines. At the beginning of the growth cycle of the vines, temperatures decrease and there were a lot of rainy days. This caused an irregular growth of the vineyard. After an unstable month of May, the temperatures increased, and a cycle without rains began. This resulted in perfect sprouts and a good flowering. The summer months were warm and with some heat waves, which caused a slower growth cycle and some symptoms of water stress, and thus a concentration of fruit. At the end of September, and before the harvest, there was some rain that was perfect for a great year thanks to the perfect ripening of the grapes. Good acidity and concentration define the wines from this vintage. Fine wines with a great ageing potential.
An excellent vintage in Rioja. With a mild autumn, and a cold and rainy winter, the growth season began with enough resources for the perfect development of the vines. During this period, there were no pests and diseases until the end of the growth cycle. During the harvest, there were no significant rains, so the health and ripening of the grapes were excellent. A great year with great aged wines that can be stored for a long time. Perfect balance between the most amiable tannins and the good acidity, which give these wines an extraordinary length.
Sight

Ruby colour with russet highlights. Bright and clean.

Nose

The nose is presented as mature and elegant. There are notes of toasted coconut accompanied by aromas of leather, damp earth, red fruit and nuts.

Taste

To the palate, this is a complex wine with round and silky tannins. Persistent finish.

Sight Bright ruby colour with tiled tones. Nose On the nose it is ripe and elegant; its rich aroma develops as the wine breathes. There are toasted and coconut notes that lead to leather notes, moist earthy aromas, red and dry fruit. Taste On the palate it is a complex wine with round tannins. Complex and persistent aftertaste.
Sight Beautiful ruby red colour with brick red edges. Clean and bright. Nose Intense and elegant nasal aromas. Its nice toasted and spicy notes give way to hints of leather, wet earth and aromas of red fruit and nuts. Taste In the palate, this Spanish wine is complex, round and polished. It has a good acidity which makes it crispy and provides it with a long mid palate and silky tannins. It has a long finish with smoked and fruity aromas at retro-olfaction.
