Characteristics of Còsmic Gratitud Negre
Còsmic Gratitud Negre is a red wine without denomination of origin produced by Celler Còsmic Vinyaters in Penedés (Barcelona).
Salvador Batlle founded this winery with the philosophy of preservation of the surroundings, respect for the power of the land, and minimum human intervention in the production of wine. He carries out winegrowing based on biodynamic principles.
The project Celler Còsmic Vinyaters makes wine in two very different areas:
- La Serra del Montmell (Baix Penedés), with foreign varieties adjusted to this region.
- Agullana (Alt Empordà): native varieties of the Ampurdán.
In total, this winery works with 5.5 hectares, using organic and biodynamic agriculture. All their wines are of a single-variety, made with minimum intervention and therefore respecting their natural origin, and expressing the strength of the variety and the personality of the terroir.
Còsmic Gratitud Negre is a wine made from Cabernet Francand Sumoll(8%) from a single plot certified as organic, La Solana, located at 600 metres of altitude on red clay and calcareous, very compact soils.
The grapes are manually harvested and placed in 10-kg boxes. Once they arrive at the winery, the macerate before the fermentation with native yeasts in different containers: 70% in 220-litre amphorae and 30% in stainless steel deposits for 12 days. When the fermentation has ended, it remains 3 months in French oak barrels. After the final coupage, the wine is bottled without filtering.
Còsmic Gratitud Negre is a juicy, aromatic and fresh wine. The aromas of fresh and ripe fruit stand out, as well as light flowery notes. In the mouth it is amiable and quite long lasting. A wine that can be paired with any kind of meal.

Today, the D.O Penedès is experimenting with viticulture and winemaking like no other region in Spain, home to a vast range of different grape varieties. The region is home to traditional white and red varieties, foreign ones, noble ones, permitted grapes, experimental grapes, and those that demostrate intrinsic qualities. As well as the grapes, the production techniques used are also worth noting, the location of the vineyards, the yields per hectare, the wines produced using traditional, original or even exclusive blends, the different ageing times, as well as the complexity of the different barrels used! But the reality is, given the vast diversity, it can be difficult to pinpoint what really defines a wine from Penedès, since there are so many types of wines and wineries in the region. However, the common denominator of all the wines from Penedès continues to be balance and quality.
