Characteristics of Corteo

Corteo is one of the best wines that you can find in the appellation of origin Jumilla. It is produced by the winery El Nido, a winery that belongs to the group Juan Gil, known to produce great Jumilla wines like Clio and El Nido.

Corteo is a monovarietal produced by the varietal of Syrah, grapes originating from a small vineyard planted at 700 meters above sea level.

This is a 2 hectare vineyard with a gentle slope facing northeast with rocky top layers, and rich in limestone and a sandy base.

This is a Mediterranean climate, with strong rains mainly in the spring and autumn and extreme temperatures that go above 35ºC in summer, and can drop below 0ºC in the winter.

These factors make the fields very low yielding; the grapes are small, but highly concentrated.
The harvest is completed by hand, and a selection process occurs once the grapes have arrived at the winery.

The fermentation process is realised in small containers and aged in French oak barrels for 30 months.
Corteo is a great wine from Jumilla, it is concentrated, complex, very expressive and with lots of flavour.

Serve at 15ºC

Tasting notes Corteo

Sight Corteo is a beautiful dark garnet red. Nose On the nose, a predominance of a black fruit jam. Blackberries and plums together with notes from the barrel and a balsamic undertone. Vanilla, coffee, toasted and cacao. Taste Corteo is potent, full flavoured and very striking. A combination of fruit and smoked flavours. Smooth and silky. A very persistent finish.
Sight A beautiful dark purple, very intense. Nose The nose dominated by fruit. Black and blue fruits, highlights of plum with notes of aging. Vanilla, coffee, cacao. Taste A flavoursome wine. Again, with a great presence of fruit. Berries such as blueberries and blackberries. Nice smoky nuances. Aftertaste is long and persistent.

D.O. D.O. Jumilla

Winery El Nido

DO Jumilla is located on a high plain in the eastern region of Spain, acting as a transition zone between the Mediterranean coastal area and the high central plateau of Castile-La Mancha. The vineyards of Jumilla are spread over the municipality of Jumilla, in Murcia, and six counties in the southeast of the province of Albacete: Ontur, Tobarra, Albatana, Hellin, Montealegre and Fuente Alamo. The main variety of the area is the Monastrell grape variety, a noble and robust variety which produces small bunches of small dark-coloured grapes very rich in sugars and other noble components.

Bodegas el Nido belongs to the Gil Family Estates group (Juan Gil Bodegas Familiares). Founded in 2002, The Gil Family Estates has formed a solid group that is currently composed of small wineries from various winemaking regions in Spain (Denominaciones de Origen). Because of this, Juan Gil Bodegas Familiares offers, with its commercial name, a wide portfolio of Spanish wines with different characteristics and backgrounds. All of the wineries involved have the common goal of producing high quality wines using native grape varieties, with unbeatable value for money. El Nido really brings alive this area of viticultural interest, having been conceived under the philosophy of empowering the identity of the terroir, as well as the personality and quality of native grape varieties.
