Characteristics of Corteo
Corteo is one of the best wines that you can find in the appellation of origin Jumilla. It is produced by the winery El Nido, a winery that belongs to the group Juan Gil, known to produce great Jumilla wines like Clio and El Nido.
Corteo is a monovarietal produced by the varietal of Syrah, grapes originating from a small vineyard planted at 700 meters above sea level.
This is a 2 hectare vineyard with a gentle slope facing northeast with rocky top layers, and rich in limestone and a sandy base.
This is a Mediterranean climate, with strong rains mainly in the spring and autumn and extreme temperatures that go above 35ºC in summer, and can drop below 0ºC in the winter.
These factors make the fields very low yielding; the grapes are small, but highly concentrated. The harvest is completed by hand, and a selection process occurs once the grapes have arrived at the winery.
The fermentation process is realised in small containers and aged in French oak barrels for 30 months. Corteo is a great wine from Jumilla, it is concentrated, complex, very expressive and with lots of flavour.

To speak of Jumilla wine is to really refer to the Monastrell grape variety. In recent years Jumilla has undergone an impressive transformation. Once used as concentrated and highly alcoholic wines to give strength to weaker wines from other regions, the wines from Jumilla have managed to change this reputation, now enjoying prestige from all over the world. Flavourful wines, with body and concentrated. As well as red wines, the region is also known for their rosés, again produced with the Monastrell variety.
