Characteristics of Corimbo I

Corimbo l is a red wine made in the Ribera del Duero by Bodegas La Horra. Bodegas La Horra is a project in the Ribera del Duero by Bodegas Roda, a well-known winery in La Rioja as they are architects of great wines such as Roda Roda I, II or Cirsion Roda.

Corimbo l is made from Tinta del Pais, a typical variety of Ribera del Duero. The grapes come from old vines over 40 years old, planted at an altitude of 800 metres in the towns of Horra and Roa in the province of Burgos.

The harvest is done manually and the grapes are subjected to a strict selection process. The process begins with a maceration of the grapes. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in oak vats, while malolactic fermentation occurs in barrels.

Corimbo l undergoes a 16-month aging in French oak barrels (80%) and American oak barrels (20%). It is stabilized by natural means and is clarified with egg white.

Corimbo l is an excellent red wine from the Ribera del Duero. A wine with body, strong, with plenty of fruit and tannins of great quality that promise an excellent evolution in the bottle.

Tasting notes Corimbo I

This was a complicated year. Although the sprouting of the vines was slightly early, the low temperatures recorded during the spring delayed the growth cycle, which no longer recovered in the summer, despite having a warm month of July. The harvest was carried out at a fast pace, and with the extra effort of the viticulturers, who discarded the fruit that did not meet the optimal conditions. This way, they made sure that they avoided the probable effect of the botrytis attacks due to the rains they had around this time. The wines from this vintage, rated as a good one, offer good colour intensity, great fruit expression and a lot of freshness.
Regarding climate, the 2012 vintage started with the sprouting of the vines in the beginning of spring with the cooler temperatures. In May, generous rainfall and high temperatures gave way to a generalised drought throughout the summer. Luckily, the rains started at the onset of the ripening. The precipitations at the beginning of October, and the nice temperatures during the harvest, resulted in the a uniform phenolic ripening. The wines from this vintage have a good alcoholic strength, balanced by moderate levels of acidity, with a good colour and phenolic intensity, and a suitable level of tannins, all important features for a perfect ageing.
After a predictable winter, the weather changed in spring. Temperatures were higher than normal, which caused an early start of the grapes’ ripening cycle. The normal course of the climate at the end of spring and at the beginning of the summer, allowed the vines to recover their usual pace, and the veraison took place on the expected dates. The beginning of the harvest was slightly early due to the strong heat the grapes suffered during their ripening. However, the nice weather throughout the harvest, without rain or frost, provided grapes with an impeccable health. Wines from the 2011 vintage have a slightly higher alcohol strength than usual, with a perfect balance thanks to their natural acidity, concentration of colour and phenolic richness. For all these reasons, this vintage has been classified as excellent, offering high-quality young wines, and wines with the ideal features for their ageing.
Sight Bright red, dark background and purple trim. High layer. Nose Wonderfully intense and elegant nose. Fruit against certain aging notes at the bottom. Black plum, blackberry, spices, balsamic herbs, bitter chocolate and excellent mineral notes. Taste Large in the mouth, with body and space. Notes of fruit, black fruit that slowly gives way to balsamic notes, minerals memories, earth and chocolate. A cool, elegant, powerful and characterful wine.
Sight Intense and deep robe. Very dark background and cherry red edge. Nose Intense and elegant nose. Notes of the ageing and many ripe black fruit (plums and blackberries) are perceived. Mineral notes and high quality sweet spices, sensations of black chocolate mixed with ripe fruit and the broken pit of the plum are noticed. Taste In the mouth, it is bulky and mineral, with ripe black and fresh fruit and reminiscences of the chocolate. Powerful retro-olfaction, with refreshing and balsamic notes of the aromatic plants from the pine wood. High quality tannins. Excellent aftertaste of ripe very black fruits, cocoa and refreshing balsamic notes. Incredible sensation of pleasure, power and elegance at the same time in the mouth.
