Characteristics of Codorníu 1551

The heir of a winemaking tradition dating back to 1551. Codorníu owes its name to the first document registering the family's winemaking profession. A cava made from the traditional grape varieties, Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Parellada, with an ageing time of at least 9 months in the bottle.

Tasting notes Codorníu 1551

Sight Straw yellow colour with slight golden glimmers. Clean and very bright. Fine bubbles. Nose A cava with fresh and balanced aromas, with smoth fruity and citrus notes that harmonize with touches of toast and honey. Taste On the palate, like in the nose, this wine is fresh, cheerful and balanced. Good acidity, long and clean finish.

Winery Codorniu

Cava was born under the constant shadow of its French counterpart, Champagne. However, produced over 1,200km away and a gap of over 100 years, Cava was always going to be a completely different product, even if produced using the same method and and sometimes with the same varieties. Firstly the climate and soil have a profound impact on the yields, while the plant strains that thrive here and completely different to those in the Champagne region. Fortunately, as more winemakers are becoming convinced of this, they are producing Cavas with their own personality, showing off the art of the second fermentation in the bottle like no other wine region in the world.
