Characteristics of Clos Peites Reserva
Clos Peites Reserva is a red wine produced with extremely little production in the Priorat by the Celler Mas Basté, a small winery in the hands of the Basté family, a family with extensive experience in making wine in Priorat.
Celler Mas Basté is a winery that tries to recover the traditional production of elaboration. A cellar which focuses on quality well above quantity.
Clos Peites Reserva is made from Carignan (75%), Syrah (15%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%). The grapes come from 5 hectares of old vines that the family owns.
The vineyards are planted on costers, the name given to the terraces in the Priorat, due to the steepness of the terrain. These terraces make it impossible to perform any mechanical work in the vineyard, so that all the tillage is done by hand.
The ground is typical Priorat dominated by Licorella, the name given to slate soils in the area. A fragmented slate soil forces the vine roots to find the nutrients below.
Clos Peites Reserva spends 30 months aging in French oak barrels, partly in new barrels and partly in used barrels, trying to convey all the nuances of wood without giving up all the typical Priorat flavours.

Priorat is craftsmanship and tradition, old and robust vines that are grown and born deep inside the province of Tarragona. They are grown on slopes that are sleety with low fertility and difficult to grow in. In Priorat they produce great red wines of an excellent quality, a maroon colour, robust, dense and rich flavour, intense aromas and sometimes there are reflections present of minerals from the soils.
