Clos de l'Ecotard is an organic Chenin Blanc wine produced by Domaine Michel Chevré, in the Saumur region of the Loire Valley, in France.
Michel Chevré is currently considered one of the best young producers in the Loire. In 2007 he founded Domaine Michel Chevré, and two years later launched the Les Ecotards cuvée, which has made him famous.
The grapes for Clos de l'Ecotard is made come from a south-facing three-hectare vineyard of clay-calcareous soils, which is worked according to the principles of organic agriculture.
This vineyard produces high quality grapes that are picked exclusively by hand before being pressed. The must obtained is fermented with its native yeasts and aged in barrels with its fine lees for twelve months. Due to the location of Domaine Michel Chevré, all stages of winemaking are carried out at an ideal temperature that makes it possible to preserve the characteristics and personality of the variety.
Clos de l'Ecotard is a wine that represents one of the most ambitious "chenins" that exist, and is considered one of the best dry wines in France, capable of competing with the best whites from Burgundy and comparable to the best German Rieslings. It is a complex and very deep wine, with an exceptional aromatic potential and a characteristic colour that is more intense than usual in a white wine. It projects the personality of Chenin Blanc like no other, combining concentration, freshness and generosity. It is an aromatically beautiful wine that perfectly balances a range of floral and fruity aromas.
Clos de l'Ecotard is undoubtedly one of the great white wines of Saumur that reaffirm the nobility of the denomination.
