Claire Naudin Viola Odorata Côtes de Nuits Villages is a natural Pinot Noir monovarietal red wine from the AOC Côtes de Nuits Village produced by Domaine Henri Naudin-Ferrand.
Domaine Henri Naudin-Ferrand is a winery that has been run since 1994 by Claire Naudin, one of the three daughters of the founder of the domaine, Henry Naudin. It is located about 15km from Beaune, in the heart of Burgundy, in Magny-les-Villers. The winery has small plots in Côte d'Or that cover a total of 22 hectares. It works both in the field and in the winery striving to ensure that its wines express their terroir fully.
Claire Naudin Viola Odorata is made with grapes that come from three plots located in the commune of Corgoloin. The vines on the plots are very old, between 70 and 85 years old, and they produce a very concentrated and balanced grape. The soils of the vineyards are clay-limestone and the vines are located on east-facing slopes. They are all harvested by hand in order to perform an initial selection of the bunches while still in the field.
Once in the winery, the Claire Naudin Viola Odorata vintage is again selected and vatted in vats under an inert atmosphere to prevent oxidation and microbiological attacks. The wine-must ferments with native yeasts in the presence of the skins, and remains vatted with them for about 14 days. Once fermented, the wine undergoes 18 months of refining ageing in barrels, 80% of which are new, and undergoes malolactic fermentation in these. Only a little sulphite is used during ageing and before bottling.
Claire Naudin Sweet Violet is an elegant and balanced natural wine made from Pinot Noir that has undergone a good ageing in new oak barrels.
