Characteristics of Castillo de Monjardín Rosado de Lágrima
Castillo de Monjardín Rosado is a rosé wine produced by BodegasCastillo de Monjardín in Villamayor de Monjardín, D.O. Navarra.
BodegasCastillo de Monjardín is a winery located in the centre of Navarre, at the foot of the Pyrenees, a privileged area for the cultivation of vines. This area is highly influenced by the French history and culture, which give it the tradition when it comes to producing their wines with varieties like Chardonnay, Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon.
BodegasCastillo de Monjardín has 220 hectares of vineyards located at around 700 metres of altitude, on sunny hillsides refreshed by the "Cierzo", strong cold wind characteristic of this area. These vines are between 15 and 70 years old.
All their wines are made with grapes from their own farms, with controlled fermentations, and ageing in French and American oak barrels. They combine the best traditional methods with innovation, using state-of-the-art winemaking techniques. Their aim is to produce top quality wines that represent the land where they are born.
Castillo de Monjardín Rosado is a wine made from 100% Merlot, from the farm La Campanalda, located at 450 metres of altitude.
The harvest is carried out at night, so that grapes are picked at lower temperatures to preserve all their aroma. Once the harvest arrives at the winery, it goes through free-run saignée without pressing (sangrado de lágrima), hence its name "rosado de lágrima". It is fermented in stainless steel deposits.
Castillo de Monjardín Rosado is a fruity, fresh and elegant wine. A rosé that was born to honour the well-deserved fame of the Navarrese rosé wines.

Ratings for the vintages from the D.O. D.O. Navarra
Some wine regions have to bear the weight of their own prestige and fame, and this is certainly the case for Navarra. For many years, the white and reds produced in this region came second to the rosés produced here with the noble Grenacha variety. However, the last two decades have seen ongoing changes in the wine-making sector in Navarra, changes which have completely transformed the styles of wine produced and have been consistently worthwhile, resulting in some of the white and red wines produced in Navarra being ranked among best rated in Spain.
