Characteristics of Carmelo Rodero 9 Meses

Carmelo Rodero 9 Meses is a red wine made by Bodegas Rodero in Ribera del Duero.

The winery has 80 hectares of vineyards spread over the municipalities of Burgos Pedrosa de Duero, Boada de Roa, Roa and Mambrilla Castrejon, in the heart of the Ribera del Duero (Burgos).

Carmelo Rodero 9 Meses is made from 100% Tinta del País (Tempranillo). The grapes come from vineyards between 5 and 20 years old.

For the preparation of Carmelo Rodero 9 Meses, the grapes are de-stemmed and stripped for fermentation and maceration is then performed at controlled temperatures. Carmelo Rodero 9 Meses undergoes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel at 20-22 ° C.

After the fermentation process, the wine is aged for 9 months in barrels of French and American oak, subsequently resting in the bottle for about 3 months.

Tasting notes Carmelo Rodero 9 Meses

After a dry winter, spring came loaded with rain. Thankfully, this water was stored, since it was much needed during the extremely dry summer. The low temperatures during spring delayed the sprouting of the vines, which led the growth cycle to start with delay. However, this delay was offset thanks to the high temperatures recorded in July and August, to the point of delaying ripening in those younger vineyards. The 2016 vintage beat the production record of the 2014 vintage. And not only in production, but also in quality due to the excellent weather conditions and the excellent health of the vineyards. The wines from this vintage offer a lot of volume, with a good capacity to face the passing of time, with roundness and spectacular tannins. A harvest reminiscent of those of the late 80s and early 90s.
The 2015 vintage started with a winter that had good groundwater reserves. The spring was warm and dry until well into the month of June, when there were intense rainfall at the beginning of the blooming. A summer with some well spread out storms gave way to a very dry autumn. The harvest was slightly ahead of the usual dates, but the analytical and organoleptic features, and the balance of the berries, were ideal. Thus enabled the harvest to take place at the optimal ripening time. The wines from this vintage, which was classified as excellent, have a good colour intensity, significant fruity notes on the nose and a high tannic potential in the mouth, with sweet tannins that indicate the good phenolic ripening of the berries. A vintage reminiscent of the exceptional 2005 vintage.
After the withering in a mild winter, the warm start of spring brought sprouting forward by almost 10 days. The summer, which was quite cool and dry, enabled the good evolution of the growth cycle and a balanced ripening. This was a vintage without setbacks. Worth mentioning is the high production of this vintage due to good climatic behaviour during the harvest. The wines from this vintage have great colour intensity, and a high fruity expression on the nose and in the mouth. Their balance and tannic potential stand out; these features show us the great potential to produce great wines for ageing, and for lighter and fruitier productions.
Sight Cherry red, high layer. Bright, fine and glyceric tears. Nose Medium to high intensity, aromas of black fruit and coffee. Lactic and vanilla notes. Taste Good entry, pleasant and fruity. Good tannins, elegant and velvety. Good acidity. Persistent finish.
Sight Clean and bright cherry red colour, with violet edges and sparkles. High robe. Tears of a great width and speed. Nose In the nose, it has a medium-high intensity. Floral and red fruit of the forest aromas, together with lactic and vanilla touches, typical of its ageing in wooden barrels. Taste Wide, persistent and velvety attack. Perfect amount of acidity; fruit and great tannins are predominant.
After a predictable winter, the weather changed in spring. Temperatures were higher than normal, which caused an early start of the grapes’ ripening cycle. The normal course of the climate at the end of spring and at the beginning of the summer, allowed the vines to recover their usual pace, and the veraison took place on the expected dates. The beginning of the harvest was slightly early due to the strong heat the grapes suffered during their ripening. However, the nice weather throughout the harvest, without rain or frost, provided grapes with an impeccable health. Wines from the 2011 vintage have a slightly higher alcohol strength than usual, with a perfect balance thanks to their natural acidity, concentration of colour and phenolic richness. For all these reasons, this vintage has been classified as excellent, offering high-quality young wines, and wines with the ideal features for their ageing.
Sight Intense, bright and clean cherry colour with maroon reflections. Good and thin tears. Nose Intense aromatic set in which an explosion of fresh berries is released wrapped in creamy vanilla and toasted aromas. Intense floral background. Taste A wine from Ribera del Duero that coats the mouth with friendly, tasty and velvety sensations. It is bulkier than expected and shows expressive notes of fleshy and mellow fruit with the creamy texture provided by the wood. Excellent acidity and long very nice finish.  A round wine.
Sight Intense cherry colour with maroon edges. Bright wine with good and abundant tears. Nose Elegant and well balanced flavours among which the fruit and the wood are perfectly balanced without standing one on the other. The notes of red fruit and some touches of ripe black fruit are released along with balsamic and fine toasted notes. When it opens up, the spicy notes become sweeter. Light floral hints and a touch of coffee and toffee. Taste Good wine with a broad and embracing attack. Silky, very tasty and intense mid palate. Its notes of fleshy fruit are well balanced with the creamy touches provided by the wood. Tannins are sweet. Good, long and lingering finish with a spicy aftertaste. A very elegant and round wine. Very nice and easy to drink.
Sight Intense ruby garnet hues. Nose Elegant aromas, delicate and penetrating. Taste Large, round, perfect for any time and to save.

Since the beginning, Carmelo vouched for the future and for quality. He knew that the base for a great wine were good grapes. Therefore, his wines were soon awarded at the most important fairs and tastings, both national and international, serving as support and recognition of their quality. The continuous growth of this winery supports the existence of wines that combine quality, modernity and origin. The gentle and advanced production methods based on the native variety, Tinto Fino, continues to open new market paths, harvest after harvest.
